you don't think i can adjust the cam gear for low emissions because i really don't feel like putting the other manifold back on just for emissions

i think the main problem would be the CAI unless you got one that is approved. just pop the hood and ask the mechanic if it will pass before you pay anything. that's what i did, and it finally passed at the 5th guy i went to. (and it was really clean).

I have basically the same setup down here in Maryland and my emissions test is the 18th.... I know that my car should pass because emission standards back in the 80's weren't anywhere as strict as they are now.... As long as your car is tuned and runnning good it should pass.... You're in Jersey right???

Since you are running a b16 mani., does your ECU throw a code because you don't have the EGR hooked up.... My car has never thrown a code and I also run a b16 mani.... Because if you really think about it all the EGR does is route used gases back into the engine so that the gases that weren't properly burnt off get a recond chance to be but if it's done correctly the first time then you wouldn't have any need for the EGR...

The B16 does not use EGR. You would have to custom mount the EGR from the old manifold onto the new one, witch is not so easy since the egr runs through a pipe from the exaughst to the intake manifolds. Honestly you should just try it as is on the test and if you fail swap over the old intake.

Yeah A20A1, you do make a good point in that thread and I never thought of it that way but we'll see if I pass on Wednesday myself.... Honestly, I think I will because like I said, I've never thrown a code for the EGR not being there so hopefully I'll be OK....

Just the year the car was built..... That's why I think we should be OK because emissions laws weren't as strict as they are now....

OK, I just got back from my test and I failed... But it wasn't the EGR that doomed me, it was the fact that I had the fuel pressure pumped up to like 42psi so the computer read my car as being too rich... Go figure, and I keep telling myself last night to put the FPR back to stock.... So what I'll do is adjust it and then take the car to this shop that can do the readings... That way I won't waste my free test taking it back to emissions and not knowing if it'll pass or not...
