carb Vs. inj.

hi everybody.
I am thinking getting a new engine, money is the problem. I don't want to spend too much. I found injected engine from 89 for $450.
Correct me if i am wrong but carb intake and headers should bolt on to injector engine.
The question i have is that what is the diffirence between 86-87 and 88-89 injector engines. I looked at chilton's manual and it said that in 86-87 they had 8.8 compression and carb had 9.1. In 88-89 it jumped to 9.3 but the HP didn't go up. May be i don't understand, but please explain to me.

I'm not quite sure what the difference is, but im sure that they're likely subtle differences.

Also, the headers on an EFI and carb engine are not interchangeable. The EFI engine goes from 4-2, whereas the carb is 4-1. The O2 sensors also might be different, im not sure. If you go down the piping a bit then they become identical.

Just got finish posting on "Weber Installed...Need Help" about this same question. I'm looking for a motor to but i found an 89 Carb motor with 78k miles on it. The price you list is similar to what I was told the motor would cost.

Andy(phydeaux) suggested I get the 88-89 EFI moter due to the fact they have higher compression compared to the EFI from 86-87. Also the Exhaust manifold is for the 88-89 has better breathing capabilities than the same manifold for the 86-87.

As far as horsepower for the 86-87 models EFI got 110 hp with 114 ft/lbs of torque. Due to the slight changes they made to the pistons and exhaust manifold in 88-89 that hp increased to 120 with I think 130 ft/lbs of torque.

So there is a difference in power due to higher compression from 88-89 EFI to 86-87 EFI.
