NOS! how many miles are on your car first? and also get I/H/E (Intake, headers, exhaust). NOS+ I/H/E = $1500 average, based on what what kinda brands you get though.

OR AN ENGINE SWAP! That would probably be best. and if you have an auto get a manual swap.

    NOS is a waste IMO

For exhaust get a; Header, custom 2.25 cat back, and muffler

For intake get a; Large K&N cone filter (Don't get tiny sized cone filters or you'll suffocate your engine), pipe bent for a cold air intake or buy one, and bypass valve.

Engine swap will be more like 3,000 - 5,000

i was getting an engine swap once, the engine was like $600 but had like 100,000 miles on it and the swap was like $600. shouldnt be that hard if you get a used engine.

The motor is only half the battle...

You need axles and harnesses and mounts... plus a motor with high miles usually is better off getting a rebuild or you'll just have a motor giving you problems, so you'll spend more time fixing it then reaping the benifits of the extra power.

    here is my recomendation:
Cold Air intake, Headers, Full exhaust.
Performance cam shaft, and cam gear to get the full use of the camshaft.
get full ignition upgrade: MSD, crane or anyother one would work.
    better spark plugs, and wires.
everything i said, is what i have on my car, and HP is far from being stock. you will be happy with that setup.
in the future, if you want more power, you can always go with Stand a lone EFi system, ported and polished head, bigger (race) camshaft, and much much more.

This is just me but I like things to be perfect before I put real money into it. If your going to be serious do a swap up to something better, if not rebuild your engine and check your car out from top to bottom to make sure there isn't anything thats needs to be replaced. If not then do the basics and don't think your going for turbo over night lol. It costs alot of money and time to do. Just get the basics, CAI, exhaust, sway bars, racing breaks etc.

if i had that much cash, i'd go to the junkyard and buy an a20 and do a full rebuild on it... eagle rods, diamond pistons, openloop camshaft, new valvetrain, mill the block and head so it's PERFECT again, and port and polish the head, intake manifold and the throttle body... you would still need I/H/E, but you'd have one screamer of an engine...

i would rebuild your motor for sure. kits should be around 300-400 including pistons, rings, bearings, etc.

then, i would do I/H/E like everyone said, and maybe do some head work, or get cam and cam shaft like Shepherd79 said.
