86 Accord Rally car

Ok i have an idea for something and want to get everyones opinnion on it. i have pretty much mastered the art of drifting with my car. i can do it perfectly on the street so i went and tried it on dirt roads today. I think that my car will make a nice Rally car. Or like an AutoCross car or something like that. I wanan know what might i need to do to the shocks, exhaust, spring or WHATEVER to make my car a good rally car. this is something I am seriously interested in and want to do. so if anyone knows of anyone who has done something like this or knows of how to do this then give me some ideas. please. I have an A20A3 in my car right now.looking to put a b16 or b18 in it soon. please help me out guys.

Sure, you can make it a rally car. Just takes money. Look in the FAQs, do some searches. With the B20, you'll need to use the tranny that comes with it (if you mean the JDM B20). By the way, do you know what driftng really is? It's not that gay ass-swinging that people buy '85 Celica GTS's for. That's just oversteer. Drifting is when the wheels are pointed straight ahead but the car is moving in a different direction. So if you are saying you have mastered the art of oversteering, swinging out your ass end, and then recovering, well that's just spiffy. But it's not drifting.

No i can oversteer really good too but i really am talking about drifting. there is this road by my house that has many 90 degree turns on it. so i drift into them all the time. its so much fun but i wanna do it professionally. I see rally as alot better than going in a straight line. that takes no skill at all. but anyways.....yeah i have some friends that swing the ass end of their cars and get all excited because they think they can rally their car now. im like shut the hell up. funny.....one of my friends does have an 85 GTS. LOL:lol

i don't think it is possible to drift in our cars.
i have never seen anyone drifting in FWD car.

I have only drifted ONCE in my car, and I was stupid for doing it. I was going really fast on a wet road racing some faggot in a newer auto celica, and I knew if I took this S curve in town right I'd win, well by entire car kept the momentum going to the west while I was facing south.. Scared my girlfriend shitless, but I had fun...

Drifting in a FWD car is almost impossible unless it is on a pavement where it cannot make traction..

if you wanna autocross look into the scca. im trying to get into the solo 2, its like time trials you race by your self and run against other cars times. its in parking lots with cones set up. go peep out www.scca.com

Big differnce in setup and in cost.

I quite frequently tsd rally its lots of fun, i have one coming up in the next couple of weeks called the heart of darkness 9pm - 7am, should be great. you can check it out at www.rallybc.com

oh and by the way with the aprorite use of throtle and an adjustable proportioning valve, FWD cars drift no problem.

Ass draggers!! I suppose you have also mastered drifting with a RWD or even an AWD since you've mastered drifting with a FWD. I have tried "drifting" with my car and it never felt like I was drifting. It felt more like I was ass dragging. Of course I could get the car to go almost as if it was going sideways, but still, low exit speed, therefore, no drifting or at least I didn't feel like I was.

If you do you're suspension right you should be able to get the ass to come around with out haveing to go for the e-brake. Hard springs and a stiff sway bar on the back should do the trick. You'll also want a rear strut bar to take some of the diflection out of the chassis. When you're setup right you should get a little understeer entering the corner and oversteer on the exit. You might want to look and see if any clubs are doing rally cross in your area. Its like auto cross only in a field rather then a parking lot.

The only awd car i have ever driven was my ex's old subaru, and never even thought of trying to do anything with that except make it form point a to b.

And i by no means have mastered drifting, go for a ride with some top local performance ralliers and you will know that everybody can improve.

As for RWD i can drift my 4runner (not in 4x4) and its got a SAS and 6" suspension lift and 3" body lift with a spool in the rear and a arb air locker up front running on 38.5" tsl sx, tires.

mind you it has to be loose gravel or slick mud

i've had the pleasure of rallying ( we call it fieldbeating) in a 81 datsun maxima ( straight 6 rear wheel) but we bought a 86 turbo sunbird convertible for $50 and drove it around our property. The real trick was using trees to bounce off of when you're sliding. If you can convert a 3rd gen to a rally car let the rest of us know how it turns out.

I know this thread is really old, but i am interested in rallying my car too. I would like to do Rally Cross, which is similiar to Auto Cross except in the dirt. I assume the setups would be similir, so if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it. i am driving an 88 Lxi.

also, what size engine is in my car (it's stock). thanks

i'd say do what the rules will allow, i mean, all these groups you would be racing in (scca and such) all have specs that your car has to meet. what i would do is see which field i would want to compeat in and then build my car around what i am allowed to modify. i mean, if your going to be doing some real rallying (i'm not sure if this is true for rally cross) you'd prob need at least some type of role cage and alot of safty stuff. as for auto crossing, i know that my stock accord did great in the Hstock class in an scca sponcered event and that if i modified it it would move up in class and i would be against harder competition and such. oh well, i'd say if you want a full race car, strip it, put a cage in it, and then get intake/headers/cat back exhaust/front and rear strut bars/tires to fit the job and then whatever fits your taste for shocks and such.

oh yeah, imo drifting sucks, its like cars figure skating

dude if you wanna become good a drifting.. buy a 180sx, silvia, 200sx, r32 or a sprinter.. they drift.. i have done drifiting in a front wheel.. nothing compared to doing it in my mates 200sx... for rally.. any car can get sideways in the gravell.
