You can get a fully rebuilt one from www.mantransllc.com for about 400-450 bucks. Thats where I got both of mine.
Check local U pulls or Pull A Parts. Around here they are ALOT cheaper than normal yards

theres not alot you can do to tell if its good or not. You can try and turn it by hand but that doesnt mean all the gears are good. Best advice is to make sure you buy one from a yard that has atleast a 30 day warranty
