Roll Cage

Has anyone put a roll cage in their Accords. other than the guys who drag and run fast. I've been thinking about putting one in. not a proffesional $2,000 job, I mean buying a kit ( I think JC Whitney sells them) and doing it myself. Mostly for looks and and strenghth. My friend put one in his 83 gti, I thought it was pretty cool. Since we dont use the car for the family only for me to drive to work it's no big deal for me to have to climb in and out, I basically do that now I'm 6' 3". I am a certified MIG welder and I build container chassises I could get tubing and have it bent cheap. I might look into it a little harder.

Yea this is what I'm talking about. I looked into doing it and priced it all out for a simple 8-point cage. I would have done it by now but I spent the money on another project of mine. I'm going to use 4130 steel which you can use thinner wall but it also cost a lot more then mild steel. It would be about $300 for the 60 ft of tubing I needed. Also with being tall I'm 6'3" also and with what I was going to do with the harness bar and side bar was have them removable. They just hook together with a joint and pin. Can't remember where you can get them but all you do is just weld them to the tubing and your set.

i dont really see why you would want one in your car unless you need it because your car is fast and its required.... i could see it gettin kind of annoying and gettin in the way ... but i know i have seen like fake ones on ebay for like 280 i think that are pre bent for civics .....

its not useless when you get in an accident. a roll cage in any care can be for saftey reasons just not for looks.

A rollcage would be pretty pointless, unless you needed it. The only reason I can think of why you would need one would be for rally racing. If for any other reason, it's just not practible, price or weight wise. also, if you are going to be using it in a race situation, make sure you follow that associations rules.

Me and Justin have some pretty big plans for the rally car, soif anything does happen it will come in handy when were pitching it sideways on dirt logging roads.

man, I looked at their website, it shows for 88-92. it might be a typo if they meant 90-92 or 86-92. cause if they include 88 and 89 in there, then obviously we could use it for our 86 and 87 accords.

Well think about our car vs a full ton truck, I want a roll cage for that and i plan on making tasha fast as hell. Also I'm going to be putting a full cage in the Se-i for the rally stuff. The cage will add weight, but if you stripped your interior out you won't see much of a difference, and I hope you have some decent power in the first place to pull the thing around.

Im probably going to get one in my coupe. Johny O has a pretty nice cage in his hatch and if im not mistaken a friend of his from Moroso made it.

For 1 being tall any kind of head on collision at highway speed I will surely be eatin dashboard. For that matter any crash a roll cage will help protect me. as for weight issue I dont really care if I add 200lb. to my car, I'm not a drag racer , or street racer. shit every time I get into it I add 230lb and the subs and amp 100lb. My own opinion I think it would be neat crawlin around it to get in and out, besides what would kids think seeing a almost 30 yrold crawlin out of street car w/ rollcage maybe its a fast car?

I think getting in and out will get old real fast and wouldnt look at that as a plus. I planning on doing one mainly to protect me and for the track since my car will be boosted pretty soon. And if you get a roll cage make sure a proffesional makes it because if its not setup it right it may end up hurting you more.
