yes you can, they were available on euro models, but they are hard to find.
have you cleaned the EGR valve?
have you reset the ECU after you install new EGR or reinstalled the cleaned one?

I have a 1986 Accord Lxi with fuel injection. I believe I have located the EGR valve, however was is that silver rectangular thing strapped down over the valve? I keep getting code 12 also and was considering cleaning the valve.

if you take off the egr you should clean both mating surfaces reallygood and get another gasket for it. carefully see if the ?diafram? (stupid inglish) moves easilywhen you push the little button. Check your vacuum lines. i tried taking off the egr in the black box, butcouldn't figure outif it was bad or good. so i just ignored that stupid code.

I bet you should try changing the sensor on top of the egr valve... if that doesnt help than make sure the valve isnt seized (it can happen)
