Check right above the front engine mount. There should be a square plate kinda right next to the timing hole on the tranny cover. Clean that off with an engine degreaser or a carb/brake cleaner and see what you find. I know the carbs are A20A1 and the 88-89 efis were A20A3. The 86-87 efis were named different but essentially same locks.

    check this website>>> http://www.geocities.com/honda_club_egypt/engines.htm

my 87 efi was a20a3 also. Only a few of the 86's have the old engine names. Like es or et or something like that. But generally speaking all 86-89 carb is a20a1, 86-89 EFI is a20a3. Even if the engine doesn't say that it is that as long as you have those years. There are a few exceptions but your not in Europe or Japan. so for now we'll just leave it like that.

the abreviations are fairly simple...example a20a3

'a' is the engine family. there are numerous ones (a,b,c,d,f,h,k...maybe others but i can't think of them)

the next 2 numbers is the displacement in Liters

    a20a3 (2.0 liters)
    h22 (2.2 liters)
    h23 (2.3 liters)
b18 (1.8 liters) and so on

the last of the numbers tell you something more of the engine. I'm not too sure of the standard behind it. I've just found it useful to memorize it

    a20a3 (86-89 accord EFI)
b20a5 (USDM 88-91 prelude Fuel injected)
    b20a8 (88-89 JDM accord EFI)

so on and so forth.. there is a good article here some were discribing it. but that's the basic break down.

mine had some kind of paint on it... not sure if it was originally yellow... I sraped it off... maybe it's the same crap they used to paint on the bolts that you aren't supposed to remove.

I cant quite remember, but I do remember seeing something there. Car is not here right now, but I will double check on that one when I get it back.

Whats up with that yellow paint everywhere anyways??

it's for factory settings. Not that big of a deal if you scratch it up or take it off. just dont turn anyskrews that have yellow paint on it unless you know EXACTLY what your doing.
