    Autocross pics

Here's a couple of pics from the autocross in Rantoul, IL Sunday... first a couple of the Accord: the second pic was taken while I was spinning out due to crappy street tires and a stiff suspension.

An one of the wonderful things about autocrossing on an airbase is that there are no noise restrictions for the participants... so you never know just what is going to show up!
The first pic is of the fastest car of the day and the last five are of a car not far behind it... This Yugo (yes, you read that right... YUGO) has front wheels powered by a 2.2l tubro-charged chrysler motor and rear wheels powered by a slightly modified Cadillac 500 cubic inch V8...

    Nice... any other pics?

Damn thats one heavily modified car. emphasis on Heavy.
must be good to have a motor powering each end of the car when the weight shifts durring a turn.
Damn 2 shifters? how does he shift? do both motors run at the same time?
It would be interesting to know if the trannies have different gearings... kinda cool too cause you could get one with a close ratio and the have the other one for top speed.

Damn how come he gets to have his battery relocated on the passenger side... I had the same box and everything and the guys at the track didn't let me run like that.

think about it, the yugo whoud have to be auto, who is going to be able to drive with two shifter and two clutch pedals, (and maybe ever two gas pedals?). maybe it takes two people to operate it, thad be hella sweet. someone should do that with a 3gee sedan, but instead of a v8, put a v10 or v12. I still think that guy is crazy for doing that. just crazy.

whoa, that yugo is the shit. ha, never thought you'd hear that for a yugo. there's one in front of my friends shop that is in good condition, has some really light weight 12 in rims on it. that could be cool to fix up because nobody else has em. anyway, 3gee looks good, what kinda tires are those so we dont spin out like that. j/k. but really, what kind were they?

it has been done that two engines can be used at the same time. Ever heard of the Tiger Z100? It has two kawasaki engines in it. one for the front and one for the rear. Two sequential gearboxs with the two levers right next to each other. you can shift them both at once or one at a time. Has a tachs for each engine too. It's possible to shift two engines =) just be a little confusing I bet since they are two different engines.

The tires are just some off brand crap... the pair in front had decent grip actually but the pair in back were busting loose way too easily (yeah, it didn't help that the fronts were different brand than the back). The Accord is not my autocross vehicle really, but the Integra needs some work so I ran it just to have something to run knowing full well that it is not competitive... especially in STS with no other mods than the springs.

Damn, bringin' this thread back from the grave! Well, you live about three hours from here so you could potentially run with us in Rantoul (more info at www.centralillinoisimports.org ) or you could find something more local at www.scca.org Most autox in this region is over for the year but we still have two events left on Nov 20-21st.

for all i know, i believe you can take a stock car there too. There are many types of classes that allow you to race whichever level your mods put you in.
