    Open Air EGR?

I have had my EGR pipe removed for quite a long time. My question is when you don something like i did and cut the pipe. on the EGR side is it safe to leave it open to air with like a Valve cover Filter put on there? I have just had a peice of hose hose clamped on there with a bolt hose clamped in the other end and then on the exaust side of it i welded it shut.

Remove the vacuum line that contorls the valve or remove the electrical connection to the vavle

You do not want the valve to be operational or it will suck in air and most likely wont give any fuel to compentate which can cause a lean mixture... don't hook it up to a filter... just disable the valve and you'll be fine.

or you can plug the hole and leave the valve connected.

Egr Gasket Print Out 300 Dpi

well then plug the ERG hole or make a gasket so it doesn't suck up air... that way it's disabled physically but the computer still is connected to the EGR.

Here are 2 versions of the EGR GASKET , print them out at 300 DPI on your printer and cut out the holes and the sides and trace it onto gasket paper, then cut out your gasket.

The first pic is the stock EGR gasket.
The second pic is the one you need, it closes off the passageway for the exhaust.

yea if you pull the vac line the computer will throw a code asap. If i were you id either do a block off plate like that one, or take the egr tube and put a nice kink in it that seals it off. Ive been running an open egr in the turbo accord, you wont risk going lean in boost or anytime at or near WOT because the egr doesnt do anything then, because the computer goes open loop

well mine has been disabled via the tube for a long time, since i first read about it o this forum. But my question was how it would effect the engine if I just let it suck in fresh air. See I am running a BT motor, a20a3 intake manifold, Cold Air Intake, Oversized Throttle Body, with a Throttle Body Spacer, Strait Exaust with no cat 1.75", 4G Map sensor (which causes it to run a little rich), Teg swapped Tranny (Manual 5 Speed), 4G alternator, MSD Ignition, and soon an Apexi AFC II. Basically I am trying to get the most out of the motor and then go turbo. Of corse when I go turbo I will probably go ahead and jbweld the EGR Passageway.

ok, i get the idea of blocking the EGR at the EGR base. ive done this on a few other cars before. but on my 86 there is a tube runing from the intake to exhaust manie, just block this off completely right? so basically use a base gasket blocker for the EGR valve itself so the ECU wont throw codes. and on the emissions tube just berid of it and blcok everything off on that?

I have had my tube off a long time no adverse effects. I do have both ends plugged. not sure how it would run if it was allowed to pull in outside air.

in the black box is the solenoid that controls the egr valve. it is actually a variable solenoid.
