    crappy acceleration -- vacuum problem

Recently, i noticed my secondary butterflies were't moving anymore. The plunger is still fine. if i move it manuall and plug it with my finger, it stays. There is next to no vacuum on the line going to it, though. At idle, there is no vacuum on that line.

Is this a common problem. My cruise control doesn't work anymore, either. I think i have a system-wide vacuum problem/failure.

The engine idles smoothly and fuel economy is still great...

vaccum is direct. They are all hooked up directly to ur intake manifold. The secondary butterflies open fully under wide open throttle. so u can just pull the vaccuum hose out of the diaphram (dashpot) and they will be open all the time.

if u got crappy acceleration, check ur plugs if they are fouled and also check ur fuel filter and change it if u have not.

the secondary butterflies aren't connected directly to the IM. they're delayed to open at 4500rpm. It's not just WOT.

it's designed so that at low engine speeds, the intake runner length is longer which helps with low end torque. When the engine gets to about 4500 rpm and needs more, direct air, the secondaries open and allow the direct air flow. It's like poor-man's vtec.

either way, mine don't close at all anymore. there is no vacuum on its line... it's just like i pulled the vacuum line off. I traced it back to the vacuum control box. I haven't opened it up yet to see if anything is disconnected or broken. Is this common? Or am i facing a typical mouchyn problem that nobody has ever seen before?

bro i know how the secondaries work and in relation they are connected to the manifold via a controller in the box, U can pull the hose off the dashpot and the car will still run fine. If u think u got the butterflies stuck closed, u can open up the manifold and see how they are inside. The gasket set is part of the intake manifold gasket as u know and its only 7 bux and its by Felpro.

u can rip the secondaries out and be happy with it. ANd i dont think anyone had problems with their secondaries stuck closed. So from what ur saying, if there is no vaccuum in the line, then the butterfles are open constantly its no biggie.

i know it's no biggie, but it's something i want fixed. It's dyno proventhat the car produces more torque below 4000 rpm with those flaps closed.

Springs open the butterflies... Vacuum closes the butterflies... a drop in manifold vacuum opens them... you can delay the drop in vacuum via a solenoid.

If the solenoid is borken then just tap manifold vacuum directly to bypass the solenoid.

If not run with it open all the time.

If the diaphragm is stuck then replace the diaphgragm

If it's the butterfies then remove and clean the secondary spacer.

yeah, i'll probably be replacing that solenoid. i would like for the system to work as it did from the factory... at least until my b16 manifold gets here

i scored a b16 manifold, fuel rail, throttle body, and sensors for $15 on ebay!

Why did you chose the b16 over the 94+ ls manifold...? Damn, I paid more for my ls TB than you did for everything..wtf!
