Exclamation automatic to 5-speed: How the hell do I make my reverse lights turn on???

OK, I took the console apart, according to the shop manual when the auto is in reverse there is continuity between the green/red wire and ground... well I did that (shoreted the Gr/Rd wire to the chassis) and they won't come on (yes the key was in the "ON" position, the fuse is fine)

am I doing somehting wrong or do I have an electrical problem? They were working fine b4 the swap

The green/red wire to ground will only light up the R in the dash to tell you that you are in reverse. You need to connect the green/black to the yellow wire to make the back up lights come on.

gangster it works! this needs to be in the how-to (or maybe it is I think I'm part dislexic lol) I'm going to try it without the green/red. I was afraid to do the yellow-green/black short b/c it said it was the "inhibiter" circuit but when I tried it the car still started
    thxs again

There should't be a need for the green/red to ground. You should be fine without it.

HOpe this Helps you Erick. You are the 3rd person who has had this problem. I had it too, but it was because i did not have the 5spd engine bay harness that had the clips for the tranny switch. But i followed the following schematic to rig up my own from my reverse switch on the tranny to the engine bay harness so it would work and it worked fine.
