    best place to find a new tranny

    my fifth gear just went out on me yesterday, and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions as to what to do or where to get a transmission for a good price...Thank you...

    The junkyard. Get an 87 Prelude Si tranny.

    An 87 prelude si tranny? Whats the scoop on that? Does it install just the same?

    You could simply replace the fifth gear without changing the transmission. The fifth gearset is located behind the black cover on the side of the transmission. All you'd need would be a new set of gears, new hardware, and a new gasket for the cover. Visit http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ and find the transmission in the parts catalog. This will help you see what would be involved in replacing the gear. This procedure can be performed without removing the transmission. Make sure you flush out all the old oil because it may contain metal shavings. Just my $.02

    j/y but a pick & pull will be much cheaper. 5th gear is really easy to swap unless the bearing is also bad then you have to pull the tranny. Just have to jack it up and remove the whell and yoiu will have easy acess to it. For the seal just pick up some high temp silcone gasket at any parts store.

    hey my third gear syncro is goin out any suggestions?
    oh yeah my reverse sounds like shit when im moving in reverse. any more suggestions or is it a swap kind of deal? im not much of a trans mechanic. i can do a swap no problem. but im not to sure about changin gears out

    Yes, it a direct replacement. The gear ratios are closer in the Si tranny tho. Makes for a little more spirited driving.
