    Catalytic Converter

i had already done a search but no answer's to my question.
when i start my car it rattles around in the front area...
    only when it's cold.
    then sometimes it buzzes too.

i put her on a lift and hit the cat and it was making rattling sound like a bunch of rocks..

plus i noticed that when i step on the gas it'll bog down and then take off..
it's worse when the temp is in a certain "normal" range..
but once it fully warms up it'll bog a little.
plus so far when i step on the gas she'll cut off.

so now for the newb question....
is this the sign of a clogged cat???

Sounds like it could be the cat. I think there should be about 100 degree temperature difference from the front to the back of the cat. Once they break down internally they do rattle. And if it gets clogged enough you will lose power. Most repair shops should be able to check it quick and easy.

Sounds like a bad cat to me me. Put you in a resonator if your local emission laws permit.

    okay..another newb question.
ummm how bad is this hurting my engine.
i know it shut's off because of the cat...so that's why i'm asking how bad is this hurting the engine...
if it comes down to it i might have to punch a little hole in the exhuast to help it till i can get the money to fix the problem.

It kills your gas milage more than anything. I would take the cat off and clear it out before I would put a hole in the pipe ahead of it. You will not pass an emissions test but you won't now anyway.
