Quirky Clock Question

This may not be a Technical Post question but my clock for 3 years didn't work and in the forth year is would work for like a day here and there. Then one day I was at the junkyard and found the little metal frame that goes into the dash around the clock. (it never had it when I bought the car) After I put it in my clock has worked everyday? It that frame some sort of ground?

i don't think. may be you had bad connection
