Question Smoke from exhaust at start-up???

Every morning when i start my 89 accord up in the morning itll smoke this really thick smoke and itll linger around for alittle bit. Its not the normal smoke that comes from the exhaust when its cold out it a thicker heavier smoke.

What is it and is there something I can do to get rid of it?

Probably is from worn-out valve seals and the oil that seeps into the combustion chamber over-night. If this is the case the smoke should be blue-ish but should not smell sweet or be very white colored. If it is a white cloud it could be a head gasket leak. It is probably the valve seals though, especially if the head has high miles on it. They can be replaced but it is often just a temporary fix for worn-out valve guides which is something you can't fix yourself or with the head on the car. If your car runs fine and doesn't burn any oil other than when it sits overnight, I would just let it go and keep your eye on the oil level, that is unless you love to do head-work, which personally I do not.

ding ding ding. i have the same problem, you will probably need to rebuild your head and replace valve guides (seals)

I'd say that smoke means either a valve or head gasket problem.. so you're gonna need to pull the head. I'd get it machined and a valve job done while you have the head off, even if its just the gasket, it's definitely worth it.
Taking off the head isn't too big of a job; I've done two so far on 3Gs and its pretty easy to do (alot better than the damned tranny/clutch.
Before you rip anything apart check your coolant to see if you've lost any, and pressure test the cylinders as well; If the gasket is gone you'll have shite cyl.pressure at one or more cylinders. Hopefully if the gasket is bad its only leaking coolant into the cylinders and not letting your oil/coolant mix.
Good luck man... hope it works out for you!
