Coolant hose under manifold broke..[pic] J needs help

Hey what's goin on.
I get out of the car and notice a puddle of antifreeze.
I check and it's not, radiator or radiator hoses, or water pump, or thermostat.
It's coming from the intake manifold, right above the oil filter. SO I see this little hose that looks coroded on the end.
I try to touch it, and it snaps. and there's a piece of metal tube broken off in the end. (see pic)
what the heck is this thing, and how would I go about to replace it?

and see where it was connected to, the little white fitting above oil filter in pic.

You'll have to replace the pipe between the water pump and the I believe the thermastat housing.

its just the nipple it slides over jigga. its about an 1 1/2"-2" long.
unless you wanna solder it back on, you pretty much have to replace it. there is one bolt in the middle of it holding it to the block, unbolt it and you just pull it out from behind the Water pump housing. you will need a new o-ring as well. that link for majestic is the best and probly the only place to get it unless you go to a dealer.

i cannt think of a quik fix to get you by off the top of my head though. maybe some JB weld??

maybe you could go to lowes or something and get a small ass brass fitting thats about 2" long with male threads on each end.

you can wrap the water pipe with repair tape if the hose proke on the water pipe, just be careful to remove the sharp edges...

The pic of the hose looks like you broke this thing though



A20A3 water pipe, simmilar to A1 but it has 2 small ports under the intake manifold instead of one.


It's a valve located under the intake manifold.

You really don't need that specific coolant line uless you have cold weather... it's what feeds the coolant port on the rear of the carb to heat the carb base and then flows thru the carb base into the intake manifold...
It may flow the opposite way... never tested it.

I don't think it would be a good idea to bypass the valve with a single coolant line form the pipe directly to the carb to act as a temporary fix... it's probably better to plug both coolant ports at either side untill you can get a new valve.

Plug the hose on the water pipe and then plug the hose on the back of the carb to stop coolant from flowing... that is I'm assuming the valve is what is broken.

Plugs or caps for coolant ports don't come that small usually... and vacuum caps aren't that good and holding coolant... so a good hose with a bolt or something wedged in one side and a hose clamp to hold the bolt in should be better then plugging the ports with rubber caps. If you find small coolant plugs then by all means use them... just find some good clamps to go with it.

i forgot you were carbed jigga. it has to be one of the two things A20A1 is saying though. you just gotta find out which one man. i would lean toward the water pipe though seeing as the nipple of which ever one it is broke off into the hose. the water pipe is just steel and that valve looks brass to me. and in your pic that peace thats broke off doesnt look like brass but i cannt really tell. let us know what you find out.

JB weld it or replace it.. don't try to ghetto rig a bypass....

Yeah thats what I was saying, it's a thermovalve so bypassing it would cause the carb to get coolant when it doesn't need it.

if your metal coolant pipe is good and the rubber hose is still attached to it, you can just plug it, or get a new valve. I had simular problem and i just pluged it.
if you have to get the whole new metal coolant pipe, majestic is the place. I had to order mine for LXI and I had the pipe within 3 days.

I just went to the yard, and looked through and found a coulple valves like mine.
I took the best looking one home, WD-40 and cleaned it really good. Then boom, plug and play.
Now I dont have to drive my Legend to school anymore

Ok, I understand why you guys would say to plug the hoses, but im from Canada, and this just happened at the begining of winter. For a temporary fix I shud clamp a gas line in there then rite?

dude i had the same problem, the part is called a carburator thermostat! it is a thermostat that is supposed to regulate the carb temperature, i wouldnt use a piece of pipe if i were you, i had to buy it from honda costs 50 dollars!!
luckily the guy at the honda place knew what the part was.

you cant fix that just get a new one. i wouldnt get a used one either. dont be cheap

If it's cold where you are I suppose you could just run straight hose and no valve. make the hose longer so you can easily splice in a new valve when you get one, and like bolt it to the fire wall or something so it's easier to get to. That way you don't have to remove the intake manifold more then once.
