If it's the same body style I believe they should, it's been a while since I messed around with that.

well first off, what do you have? i.e. sedan, hatchy, coupe? If you have a sedan the 88 middle lights will not fit on your 86 without the 88 trunklid because the width is different. The fender lights however will fit. As far as i know the coupes and hatch lights were all the same, but im not 100% sure on the coupe cuz i havent had one and havent been able to inspect them up close.

at least the outer lights will fit. when i had my car at the body shop, they tried putting an '88 outer tail light on, but it didnt match so i didnt want it. but they do fit when its the sedan for sure. wont fit your '86 trunk though, you can always change your trunk lid off. but i dont think you'd want to do that. its not hard to do though.
Keep it HONDA. Or at least Asian.™

Its a sedan(4dr '88 to an 4dr '86)The lights are the fender ones. What is the difference between the inner lights from an '86-'88.I know they('88 inner lights) are smaller in terms of its length, but they are also thicker than the '86 model? If the answer is yes,how bad will look like?

On the 88-89 model tails the center lights and license plate surround thing (black plastic) were all one piece, and the license plate surround didnt stretch any further than the point where it becomes flush with the lid. This means that the bottom part of the trunklid where it dips down (-\___/- like that) is either shorter or longer than that of the 86-87 so you wont be able to interchange them, not to mention the fact that the 86-87 center lights were separate from the plate surround.

-- now that i read that im not sure if that answers your question, but w/e.

At least the outer lights will fit. Here are some pics that might answer your question.

    1986:

    1989 (same as '88):

Notice how on the '86 the top orange section is a bit thinner than the '89.
Also, what has been mentioned before, the trunk section is also a bit different.

    I hope this helps
