Talking Got a Car from Parents

I am 17 almost 18 and my parents got a brand new 04 Honda Accord LX 2.4 Liter, vtec 160 hp. So i got their old 89 Honda Accord Lx 2.0 liter engine 120 hp. I want to make it a little faster maybye at least 160 hp so another 40 hp. Were can i get 40 more hp to put under the hood besides a new moter? In about another year it will die anyways 200,000 miles then i will get new one. So please any advise on how to get from 120 ---> to 160 or a little more. So what kind of engine can go in this older car or bost it up to 160 hp?
    Thanks,
    Brian

Welcome to this website. You can use the search function to find out about your car. It won't die next year if you take care of it. 200,000 miles isn't that much for a Honda.

If your car is an LX, it does not have 120 hp. It has 98.

SEARCH makes anything you want for our cars.

well, if you take care of it, it can go up to 300K miles (not uncommon for out cars). talk to sean about a turbo kit if you like. and there arn't any other engines that will swap right in for under about $3 or 4000 unless you get a rare as shit JDM B20 imported (no, its not the prelude's motor or the CRV, it only came in 3 gee EURO and JDM accords).

For a carbed 3G there are several performance options:
1.) Get a Weber carburator, only if you don't have emissions testing.
2.) Get a better exhaust system, either with a high-flow catalytic converter (for emissions) or without one altogether.
3.) Install a reground camshaft for a more agressive valve timing.

There are more power opportunities, but these are the most common.

nice to hear you got a nice honda. sorry to tell you that the motor in that car is hard to kill. so they usually last what seems forever. anyway, you can always get the cylinder head worked on. either send it off or get it done at a local machine shop. i'm thinking of getting the head on mine worked. i can also get my cam ground to a higher performance spec. that is, here in my city. Gude makes some pretty good stuff, you do have to send parts off. many people will say not to go with them, but the cars ive seen their stuff in is great. CRXs and other civics mostly. there are headers made for this engine and you can fab up intakes for it. or you could just go with a newer engine.
Keep it HONDA. Or at least Asian.™

the best thing for carb is to use Sean's GM ecu conversion. it is a lot better than stock 3G ecu. and it should give you easy 30hp. add bigger exhaust, air intake and you should be pushing easy 130-140hp.

...i even remember asking about an ecu for my car and noone said anything...

it is not a BS. Sean has been running that setup for a loong time. Sean has a few diff versions of the setup. the one was talking about distributorless. it uses GM direct ignition setup.
    Contact sean about that.

For the money you're gonna spend doing that, why not save it and get a different car if you want speed? I would have the Accord as a daily driver and get some thing else for the speed. Granted, you can make your Accord peppy but you're not gonna see the horse power numbers like you would a car that is aleady up there in the hp range. My 95 Talon TSi turbo was $5K. I have seen 90-94 AWD Turbo Talons and Eclipses for $2K-$3K, late 80's Supra Turbos for $3K-$5K, and there are alot of other cars too. You could get a non running Civic hatch and drop a B series motor in it for $3K-$4K.
You could Turbo your Accord and do all that stuff.

Yeah, I was under the impression the the GM ECU was for Fuel Injected models, not carbed models.
