New Speakers (finally)

Well i FINALLY got some new speakers put in, unfortunatly this lead me to another problem... the head units toast, it will play music at a very VERY low volume, after i turn it 1/4 the way up or more it turns to almost solid static and distortion. Hopefully this weekend ill be going to get a new head unit and a small wattage amp hooked up for the speakers and hopefully ill have my subs in by the end of april.

Of course the front speaker covers are on, just took um off for pics. Im going to try to get the original speaker covers over the rear set this weekend since i think it looks tacky like that.

i have alomost the same exact set up only my pioneer 6X9s are also 3way and i put them in the stock houseing with the stock cover.

the 6x9s look clean keep up the good work! what kind of head unit are you going to be getting?

Could just be that the amplifer section of the hu is bad or just doesn't have enough power for those speakers. If the HU has rca outputs you can use those with an amp to bypass the amplification section.

just a tip:

the front speakers need to be turned so that the tweeters lay horizontal to the ground, as opposed to now... it's for imaging... usually those tweeters are slightly anlged up...

and i agree with hostile... the reason you're getting the clipping is that the internal amp just isn't powerful enough... when you turn it up to a decent volume, you're well into clipping... this is where an external amp is good...

thanks for the comments guys, i didnt think it matterd which way the tweets went but ill rotate the speakers this weekend sometime.

I plan on a kenwood headunit thats sirius ready and cd/mp3 capabilities

yea i know that they are distorted/cutting probably because of the amp in the stock unit, but its getting worse so i really need to get that new headunit in or at least an amp of some sort. Now it does it at low volumes and between 1/4 and 1/2 of all the way up is where it sounds the best.

just for reference its a safe bet that most headunits will start clipping at abou 70-75% of max volume. Then depending on the brand quality it goes up and down from there. (ex. my JVC HU would clip at 70% but my eclipse doesn't clip till over 95% on the internal amp)

nice. those should sound really good with a new HU. my old stock HU had that same problem. i could play it at lower volumes, but turning it up made the speakers distort and made crackling sounds, and they were good speakers, not deteriorated ones. here's my kenwood HU. it plays MP3 formatted CDs which is nice. its Sirius and HD radio ready. its the KDC-MP425 model. comes with a largeish remote control, but the good thing about it is it doesnt get lost! fits right there below the e-brake, where the antenna switch is. so its not too big.

Hondaboy...that's the same unit I put in my kids car that I thought killed the alt...guess if your alt is handling yours ok it should carry mine too...it must have been an alternator that was on the way out...
