    Aluminium Radiator

I know that some of you guys wanted to have an aluminium radiator when I mentioned that I got one for my Accord. I know that some members (like Rob) got a fluidyne raluminium radiator. I honestly don't know how good the one I got performs but it is sure better than stock.

    Here's how it looks

This rad is specificaly designed for the 3G Accord (auto or manual) and will last forever. it has plastic tanks with an aluminium core. It has hook-ups for the auto tranny cooler already. If you have a manual car, it could be used as an engine oil cooler I guess.

I got it for $188 CDN taxes included. (This is around $155 USD).

I guess I could get some more if you guys want some. I'm sure you wouldn't even have to pay the taxes on this which would make something like $134 USD.

Anyone got the specs on the fluidyne radiator?

I'll put the rad with all my winter gathered parts when I get the car out of storage.

I can't wait to get it out now!

I've been getting some really nice rads just like that lately for the 4th and 5th gens through a guy I know. Is yours a TYC (made in Taiwan) or the one from Laval, Canada (I think the guy said it was a SPI). Great quality and looks damn good too.

Here's mine that I picked up for my 4th gen(SPI). Even came with a new cap. $140 CAD taxes included.

Yeah I know where SPI is. this is a great company that makes really good rads (about 30 mins from where I live).

This one is made by Autokool. It's supposedly thicker than the stock one but didn't measure it yet.

I also got one for my daily driver (civic 94). Aluminium will not rust out like the copper ones (great for the Canadian winters)

unless it's bigger, than i'd rather have the all copper radiator... copper conducts heat better...

measure it and get back to us

Well, it's supposed to be bigger. The Civic radiator was thicker (1 inch deep)

Here are the specs I found for the civic rad I got

    Core Material Aluminum
    Tank Material Plastic
    Flow Type Downflow
    Row No 1
    Core Height 13 3/4
    Core Width 13 5/8
    Core Depth 1
    Tube No 0
    Tube Size 1,010
    Fin Length 0,3370
    Fin Per Inch 22
    Inlet Header 1 7/8 x 14 1/2
    Outlet Header 1 7/8 x 14 1/2
    Inlet 1 1/8
    Outlet 1 1/8
    Eoc None
    Toc 7 7/8 ( Concentric )
    Mounting Top/Bottom Pin

I will try to get the specs for the Accord but the core is the same. It just has a different width and height.

Cooling performance has never been an issue for me. I had to replace my aftermarkt radiator after only three years. It was all metal and started leaking at a solder joint. My Honda expert concurs - stick with plastic tanks. So, with performance and corrosion (my original radiator was clean inside, it just had a cracked tank after 13 years) not being big issues here you just want to go with a radiator that will not leak!

Nice Radiator Jean. I was a little suprised when I saw it, not what I was expecting. When I think of Aluminum radiators I think of true 100% aluminum rads like this one

Griffin Radiator 90-93 teg PN 9E-HE790-01. Fits with minor modification, same basic dimensions as our stock radiator

Offtopic: griffin is a lil expensive and the end tanks are like fludyne and stuff. But if thats a teg radiator, then we defenitely need a different upper rad hose.

Griffins run about 250-350 bucks but you get what you pay for. The upper hose shouldnt be a problem. Eventually there will be pics of one after complete install

I don't get all this discussion of "better" radiators and getting what you pay for. The factory radiator had no problem coping with extensive idling on 100 degree plus summer days in Texas. It all a matter of of durability, if you ask me. The all aluminum radiator pictured above has the upper hose connection on the opposite side on the tank from mine so if I were to use it I would need a much longer hose with a pretty sharp angle bend in it.

More important to longevity is changing the coolant at the specified times. I use an R/O water and long life coolant (the orange) stuff mix. U sing synthetic oil in the engine I never run above halfway on the temp gauge. Amsoil had tested operating temps of engines before and after synthetic oil use and found a 20-50 degree operating temperature drop. I don't know of any radiator that will fit that will get you that.

I love those aluminium radiators. Corrision free is very nice and I assume they are much lighter than stock copper radiator - important for us FF cars. Some Honda tuning shop use and sells aluminium rad for up grade (they are eye-poping expensive though) but there must be strong reason for that. Does anyone know the conduct ratio(or efficiency?) of copper and aluminium? The price is very reasonable and I wouldn't mind order one someday. carotman, please let us know if the fitting is easy and works fine or not and all that.
