    B20A "Group buy"

    Hi folks

I just thought about something that might benefit the 3geez community. I know that the B20A is hard to come by because no engine importer will actually bring this engine in north america. This is not because the engine is hard to find there but because of the lack on knowledge on the engine and lack of demand. I know some engine importers that "MIGHT" be able to get a special order if there is enough demand. I'm not talking about 2 or 3 engines but more like 5 or more.

I guess the final price would be around 800 or 900 for a complete engine.

I was wondering if there is enough demand for such a request. If enough people are willing to buy an engine, I will contact the engine importers I know and try to make an arangement with them.

Anyone would be interested in a B20A (manual or auto)? Of course, this had to be a REAL interest... not something you would change your mind in 2 weeks. The whole process may take up to 6 months to complete.

i really doubt you'll come up with 5 people who would be willing to plunk down the cash for a B20. Esp in recent light of all the trouble rob is having with his.

i dunno. good luck with it tho!

Good idea. I think 6 months or more is enough time for the serious guys who keep posting they want one to save up and get one for a good price. If it comes with an ecu, it's even better.

I wouldn't too scared to go for it. With all the info we have now, it makes it alot easier for people to install N/A. I think Rob just had some bad luck plus he's doing something quite unique. I'd be more scared about people who sign up for the group buy and then disappear when it's time to pay up.

That'S right Yasu. I didn't have any problem with my B20A so far except for the oil pan. Most of the parts are available in the US except a few. I really doubt they will come with an ECU but with a special order, everything is possible. I've been running my B20A on the Prelude B20A5 ECU without any issue. Of course, I might not the the full power out of it yet but it's ok.

well im interested...i was planning on turning my car over to a local honda specialist shop and have him re-build and enhance my a20a3 when im gone to iraq. When i come back im gonna have more than enough money to get the 3g back into shape. I figure a b20a would be even better...

sign me up for one. Id like a 3rd just in case i get a major failure in the future. Id hate to have to convert back to the a20a. How would we figure out shipping. If it s possible to go into it with others to get a strictly parts engine. Im looking for a few little parts for my second to make it more complete. The halfshaft for example. I know i can use the stock a20a cv axles but you kknow the shorter the axle the better.

It's good to see everone being up front on this. With the other group buys, it seemed everyone had money on hand, ready to buy now, etc but only half or even less come through.

    Thumbs up

i'm definitely in...provided it comes with a 5 spd and is very clean with low miles that is.

also, i'd much rather have a group buy on Hasport B-series or H22A swap kit. will anyone living in or near the Phoenix, Arizona area please call Hasport to make a swap kit for 3geez? Preferably H22A. Tell them we would do a group buy. I bet there's alot of members in here that would be interested.

Ok, since there is enough interest, I will take a trip to the engine importers I know and ask them if they can do a special order from Japan for us. I dunno if they will be willing to do it but business is business. Money can buy anything and they have the resources to get those engines. Maybe we would have to pay in advance or something like that.

    I will keep you updated.

B20A is definately something i'd like to check off my list of things to get. under $1000 for engine and tranny imported is decent. would these be the low mileage engines from japan and other emmision wise countries? i'd rather not have to rebuild the engine for a while. about trannies, a manual 5 speed is what i'd like. but i think i'd also like to see about an automatic. i was going to try and do a few things with the car after school ends. i was going to try and do the suspension, but if a B20A comes around, i think i'd probley drop all other plans for it. how would these engnies be shipped and delivered? i was going to get either a 1.8T or inline VR6 to swap into my jetta, but that would have to wait if i can get the B20A. i'd like to keep this subject open for the time being. in the summer i'm bringing $200+ home a week, i think i'd be able to cover the engine costs and other stuff.

Yeah, I know I can be trusted but it's the importers that sometimes can't... The B20A is a bit old and I wouldn't want to send a worn out engine to somebody here. Of course leakdown tests are performed but you can't really make the engine run before it's put in a car. Warranty issues are the biggest thing with those importers. Anyway, with that much engines it will be written clearly on paper so legal actions would be easy.

I said the engines would cost around 900 shipped but of course this is US $ They might be even cheaper since it's a big order but like I said, I'll talk to a few of them next week.

You can put me on the maybe list as well. If I can sell my spare A20 then I'll definitely be interested. Is this price just for the engine, or engine and tranny? And likeothers said, how will they be shipped to us? If this is going to cost me more than $1500 to completely do the swap(engine, tranny, shipping) then I'm not so sure about it. Keep us updated.

just got back from getting my new lx-i coupe today and i tore the clutch on the way back home and had to slam it into gear every shift which maybe isnt a good sign of things to come but a new B20A could definetly change that. now all i gotta do is increase my weekly visits to the sperm bank. 50 bux to look at porn and do what id be doing if i was at home, who knew?? if finances work out the way ive planned them then i should be in.

can anyone tell me wut to do about the rear tranny mount. i was looking on the general swap info sticky and it says something about needing a different rear tranny mount? maybe im seeing things who knows anymore...
