    Externally Adjustable Konis!

Koni is willing to offer externally adjustable Konis, in the form of a Koni Group Buy!

Those who are interested in signing up, should follow this link to the Koni Group Buy.

Koni has never offered externally adjustable shocks for the 1986-89 Honda Accord before now.

    Peace.

My understanding is the external adjustment would be like the 8041 Sport unit.

But it will never happen if people don't sign up and buy them. So sign up at the Koni Group Buy thread. This mean you Oldblueaccord.

    Thanks OldBlueAccord,

I wanted Koni Rear Shocks, but no one had them. I saw a pair of rear Koni shocks sold in one day, before I was able to check the site. They seem to be the most sought after aftermarket part here, but you couldn't get them anywhere. So I took it upon myself to ask Koni North America, and the only way was a group buy, a custom run from Holland. It has literally taken months of correspondence. I hope it will be successful, but that is in the hands of the other members now, since the group buy needs 100 shocks, whether it's 100 rear shocks and/or 50 left front and 50 right fronts for Koni to make it happen.

I am getting nothing from this, other than the opportunity to get the koni shocks. I am thrilled that the option to get externally adjustable shocks is available.

If the Koni Group Buy doesn't meet the required number of shocks, I will probably just use my Koni Front Shocks (not externally adjustable) and buy some revalved Bilsteins like everyone else has in the past. I just used to read how much the members loved the Koni Rear Shocks and wanted to get some.

I look at some of the rides here on 3geez, and I am inspired. The pictures just shows me that some insane mods can be done. I am just starting with the Konis, but hopefully I will one day get some of the mods done, since the "How to" section is so good. If this site ever closes down, I think I will look to sell the 3geez. But as long as she runs fine, and I have this site, I will keep her. She's been good to me. I owe her.

    Nuff said.

    Peace.

Can someone explain to me the large added benefit of the external adjustments? I see no real reason to use them on a suspension where my springs have a fixed height and rate. Why shouldn't I set the shocks and leave 'em at one rate?

In general extra damping produces quicker responses (and allows the use of stiffer springs with the same effect). The car will settle into a turn faster, etc. This ususally comes with a ride quality penalty. Externally adjustable damping allow you to set the car up to work well for autocross and have a more tolerable ride the other 29 days of the month. The ease of adjustibility also makes it easier to your preferred setup. If mine were externally adjustable I know I would have tried many more settings, but since I'm happy with how it's working now I haven't spent the time to tear the suspension down and try something that has the potential to be worse only to have the set it back to how it was with another several hours of work.

So on normal shocks they say you need to remove them... but then what is that allen wrench slot at the top of the shaft for? It must adjust something right?

it's to hold the strut shaft in place while you tighten the bolt down on it

The allen slot can be used for adjusting the rebound damping, but for the rod to engage the valve adjustment it must be fully compressed--something you'll have trouble doing with it installed on the car.

oh, so it's like the knobs on analog watches... where you pull the knob to adjust one hand and push it in to adjust the other...?
