    Talking First Engine Mod (56K Death)

    Well I did the first mod to my honda and there's many more too come I put up some pics so you guys could check it out. BTW never ever try modding those damn Civic Boxes with a Saws All cause they aren't the cleaneast cutters, best advice get a hot knife and do it cause it will make life a bajillion times easier, it works but it takes a shit load of time. But with out further ado enjoy :-D

    Cool nice mod, i want to do same on my LX but local yard wants $35 for the civic box, and i dont have enougth money.

    Just clean the engine bay and you're set.

    Thanks guys, ya I know it needs a good scrubbin, I will do it when I get the rest of my stuff done. and wow 35 fkn dollars I got mine for 10, but they are rare it took me quite a bit of searching before I found a carb'ed civic that didn't have the carb already takin, now to find a door. Thanks for re-intresting me in the mods for my car, I didn't think anything could be done with it, than I found you guys and I'm in love with my accord. I hope to get everything done with'in the next couple of months so I will keep check points along the way and show you what I have done.

    Good job. I see your hood is hitting the top of the air box. Looks like you'll need to cut a bit of the inside of the hood. Just take it slow, and don't take out more than you need to.

    Good work man. Is it nice and loud? As mentioned, clean that bay out. It's filthy. Mine was that bad so don't worry, there is hope.

    Ya it's nice and loud very seksi, gives it a nice sound.I think I will make a lil metal top for it, but it may be easier to cut the hood so it just depends on how lazy I wanna be. Worth it though I noticed a pretty nice power gain.

    looks good. now just put a hood scoop above the filter to get full effect. i havent had luck finding that box on any civics around here. they usually have the MPFI instead of the top throttle body. are those vinal or silicon hoses? i've found they like to collapse unlike most rubber hoses i've used.

    Looks good and probably sounds real nice . How is the performance though? I hate to sound negative about anybody's mods, but I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would do a short ram intake. Our Hondas basically come from the factory with a cold-air-intake already! Have you not noticed that the stock intake pulls air from the fenderwell? What exactly is the advantage of a short ram? If you want a better breathing filter, put in a replacement K&N and you will have it. Again, not trying to bash here, I just don't understand what is gained by doing this.

    wait, i think i recognize that set-up...

    I flipped the intake tube, I think it fits alittle better and helps the air flow like this, but thats just my opinion...

    Well, this is a mod for a carb, and even a short ram should give better airflow than the stock air box. But I think the best way to go is to do a full CIA.

    And why would you want better air flow? Is your car running rich? I think this is a big misconception by many, and basically a sales gimmick by vendors. I'm pretty sure that Honda knew how much air the car needed, and built it stock to pull fresh air from the fender-well to have a cooler air intake. Putting on a short-ram with a high flow filter will just allow for hotter air to enter your intake, not more air. Your engine only needs so much, and if you think a larger diameter tube, or higher flow filter will somehow "push" more air in, you are mistaken. Wouldn't that then make your engine run lean, and why would you want that? Unless you are boosting, or running bigger valves/cam etc. where you are upping the intake need, then it is really not doing anything. Am I wrong here?

    The stock air box when sealed acts as a plenum... When you get into the higher rpms a large plenum like our's is going to be worse then flipping the lid or decreasing the plenum size... the civic air box has a smaller plenum. Sure the stock box was designed for low speed low rpm daily driver and works great for that application. As for the members choice in intake pipe diameter and length thats something else. I'd rather open the air box and expose a nice big filter, and bring the cold air to the filter instead of routing the filter to the cold air.

    This may be a temporary power thing if I can't get it to work on my weber, if I can get it ported over to my weber carb, I will run a full CAI just for now I wanted to do my first mod and got er dun. I do notice a power difference compared to the IMHO worthless stock box, but if I can't get the weber ported to CAI than I'm going to go with a hood scoop since the air filter is already exposed.
