    b18b swap

alright.. i know u've prolly been asked this a million times before and i know there's info on it but spread into pieces. i'ma toyota man and a 88+ civic guy, so this accord stuff is new too me.

i just bought a 87 accord lx 4door, auto, 12v carb'd motor. motor has 302k on it, still running, gotta change the fuel pump out. i also need the turn signal/wiper - switch/arms for the steering column.

anyways, onto the technical side of things. I've got a motor hookup, and I'm thinking about dropping a B18B w/ a cable tranny into my accord, at least when the current engine or tranny goes.

Anyways, I'll get the engine tranny and ecu for pretty cheap. what all am i gonna need to do this swap besides this. i can figure it out on my own if i need too, but since i gotta chance to hear from some accord phreaks, i'd like to hear it.

i know i'm gonna need all the stuff to convert it to a manual, not a biggie, i'm seeing i'll hafta do custom mounts and axles. any OE mounts/axles that are extremely close? what about wiring harness. changes to my fuel system since i'll be going carb to fuel injected? etc. etc.

i'll prolly never do the swap. i bought this car to drive to an from work every day since my wife drives my corolla and my impala gets about 18-19 mpg in town. honestly, i wanted a crx but for $125, couldn't pass up this accord.

anyways. any info would be greatly appreciated. also, what swaps do y'all have? any fuel efficient swaps as well. i know the LS motor's get decent gas mileage and are strong, which is why i'm wanting to go that route.

a search would uncover the info you need.

honestly, it would be cheaper to buy another car with a better engine and start from there. shoot, for the price and time you put into installing a b18 in your LX as well as doing the manual swap, you could probably buy a 4th gen prelude or 5th gen accord with a lot fewer miles.

Where can you get 4th and 5th gen Ludes for $3K? You said before that's how much an H22 swap would cost. I would think it would be less to do a B18 swap.

Pimp, no one is really sure if there's any currently made mounts that are close. That's something you would have to try. The harness would need to be made by you or somewhere that does wiring. It's really not that hard if you have both diagrams in front of you. I didn't do mine but wish I had, would have saved a good amount of money and time. Look in the how to section for the fuel injection conversion. It's very complete and I used those instruction for mine and it went smoothly.

those were just quick searches. i find 'em locally with VTEC engines for less than 3K around here. Then again, i live in south texas where everything is cheap. god bless the car tinkering mexicans!

Well, things are much cheaper down there than up here.
