when the battery light flashes that means you have low voltage.
this is what you need to do:
    1. check the voltage on the battery. it should be no lower than 12V.
    2. start the car and check the voltage at the battery again. the voltage should be 14V. if it is lower than 13.5V get a new alternator.
    3. if you can, go to autozone and get the electrical system checked out. they can tell you exactly what is wrong with it.

and then go somewhere other than autozone to buy the alternator. Autozone alternators are some of the crappiest parts i've ever used. I thought maybe it was just my prelude since parts are so hard to find for it. Nope. Autozone alternators are crap no matter what car they go on.

If you do buy one there, it's a good thing they come with lifetime warranties. You'll be changing the fucker once a year until you get a different brand.
