Easy on the caps there big guy. The shifter is easiest to get out from the bottom. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the shifter has to come completely. Then move the ball on it, put it back and try it out.
No projects. Life consumes my time and money.

    Steve is correct
you have to remove the whole shifter assembly.
if you have DC sports, you can't adjust it.
if you have pacessetter, you have to remove it from the socket it sits in.
it will have hex screw on the side. loosen it up or get rid of it. don't need it.
adjust the ball and put everything back.
too much adjustments to make it short will cause the gears not to engage properly
i recomend to set it on the lowest setting. even at lowest setting, pacessetter will give you big advantage over stock on.

first, why are you trying to adjust the shifter?
second, you can remove the shifter boot form inside and see if you can find a ball. pacessetter shifter has threads on it. this way you can screw the ball up or down.

third, to remove the shifter here is what you have to remove.
    1. drop the exchaust from header back
    2. drop the headshield
    3. disconnect the linkages from the shifter.
    4. from the inside, remove the middle plastic console
    5. unbolt the shifter ( you may need 2 people for this part
    6. drop the shifter from the bottom.
    7. start taking it apart.
expect to spend at least half a day if you never done it.
    Alex.
