Found Some More Rareish Honda Wheels

ok, my friend told me his friends dad has some honda wheels that he wanted to sell. my friend has a '92 accord sedan, so he wanted to get them for him. so we went over there to look at them and i see some fairly decent looking old 13in 16 spoke wheels. i've seen them on 2nd gen accords and thats about it. they are supposed to be for a civic though. anyway, the guy wants $50 for all 4. i'll look at them again because i only picked up one. the others were in a hard to get to spot. they need to be refinished a little. the clear coat on the face is old and needs to be sanded off and redone. i can do that. i think i may get them, considering that price. here's a pic of what they look like. i'm kinda obsessed with buy 80's honda wheels. i just know these arent the most common wheels to come by.

i dunno. i like riddin' old school. just gotta get the right size tire. like the 13's i have right now have 175 60's on em. for one the width is too small for a large accord and the sidewall is too short. but i gotta say those 15's you have on your car look bad ass! they look just right on your car. anyway, i'm going to get some 205 60's for these 13's if i get them. already got the tires lined up if i want to get them.

ayt. well i got those wheels. paid $40 for all 4. they said one was bent, but its not much of anything. not like my 10 spoke 13s. i'm going to probley refinish them. they look pretty good now. they just need to be washed up. maybe i should powder coat them? my mom is gonna save here old stove for me to do powder coating. i'll get some pix of those rims when i get a chance.

pretty good for a $40 investment. I wouldnt say those wheels are that hard to find. Some of the wheels that were able to be added on for our accords are harder(like mine)

my friend wanted me to roll on his 17in ATS rims. i think the model is Cup. i'm not completely sure. anyway, these were on his audi but its been parked for a few months and he said he doesnt want flat spots. he's been begging me to roll on them. so we put them on. they look pretty good i guess. but they are heavy as shit! my 14in prelude wheels didnt fit his audi because the raised ring on the hub was too large in diameter. anyway, here's a pic. i'll probley get some more later when i get some time. i told him i'd give him $400 for them. he said no, but i think that was more than a fair offer. nobody is going to pay more than that, well thats in their right mind i suppose.

if any one was wondering, the pic was taken with a loooong duation exposure. its dark right now.

I wish that some company could make some replicas of that and make them in a 16/17 inch size. Those would be pretty tight in my opinion

Nah, 400 is too much for used rims that you aren't in love with. Unless they are super-light and rare. I would look for some GSR rims, LS mesh wheels, or replica slipstreams. I used to be into the big wheels but the inconvenience, weight, and tire price that comes with them just makes them so much more less desirable to me at least.

cool. yeah, those ATS rims are really nice and look great on my 3gee eh? but they are quite heavy IMO. i mean comparing them to my friend BBS rims on his Jetta GLI. that's exactly why i dont want to get away from my 13's. i really dont like the way these 17's handle on my car. my 13's with the right sized tires feel nice and smooth. i thought i'd take some more pix of the 17's. i'll post em a little later here.

hmm, i just found these ATS wheels online. the model is DTM. i can get them for about $70. no wonder people thought my offer of $400 was too much. i might as well buy them brand new!!!

ok, well these 13's are now in the process of being refinished. i've stripped the clear coat off and have been wet sanding them. the oxydation was pretty bad. i didnt think it would mess up the finish that much but it did. their original finish is kind of groves across the surface that are polished, like a lot of other honda wheels. anyway, the surface is getting worn down some with sanding. not that i really mind, i'd rather paint them a color. i thought graphite would look good but then i though of how small they are. i think they'd look even smaller, so i am probley going to paint them silver with black insets. or, if i can get ahold of a polisher, i may polish out the face of the wheels and clear coat them. either way they should look really nice when they are done. the reason i kind of want to just paint them is that there are a few surface scuffs. i was going to fill those and smooth them out so it looks better. would metal putty/filler stuff work well on them? i was going to try making the lip smoother where it has some curb rash on one of them. oh, and as for the center caps, i think i may do something with them. they are the old ones that stick out a lot. i looked at them and i think i'll take some of the material off of them so they sit lower. they will still fit into the holes and not come out.

ok, as of now i've made up my mind on how to finish these wheels. they are going to have a polished face with black insets, between the spokes. i already tried out polishing a spot. came out pretty nice and smooth. should look sort of like polished billet wheels. i just have to sand off some of the grooves left on the surface from the original finish. this may take a little bit of time, but i want them to have an even and smooth finish. they should look pretty clean when they are done. if i keep working on them i might be able to finish the face of the wheels by saturday, polished and everything. i still need to figure out what i want to do for painting the insets. i may take it to someone and have it done or something, i dunno. maybe powder coat the insets. when i get them done they will but sittin with some 205/60/13's. hopefully the place will still have a set of those tires in stock, they arent that common. i'll try and post some pix of how they are lookin.

here's what they are lookin like. for now i have this one completely sanded down and a few spokes polished. unfortunately this seems like its going to take more time than i though. if i had days off i could get them done a lot faster. i do have monday off, but i will probley have stuff to do. maybe i'll just make time to work on them. anyway, here's some idea's of what they'll look like. maybe you can see where they are polished. i'll still have to go over it another time to make them have an even polished finish, to take the swirl marks out.

here's the wheel thats closest to done, just needs to be painted between the spokes. hmm, well these really arent very common wheels. if they are so common we would have seen at least a few members with them on their cars i'd think. anyways i could care less. they are turning out pretty nice. its some work, but how they are turning out makes it worth the work. i was thinking, maybe i should go get the tires put on already. i can still work on them with tires on them. people were telling me to paint these red or something, ugh no. after i'm finished with these i'll try using that polishing compound on my 10 spoke 13s. i'll see how it does on those. they arent anywhere as bad as these were. they are just a little dull.

Those are going to be nice. Just make sure you clearcoat the piss out of them after you paint em. That way tha aluminum won't dull and tarnish.
