ok guys i had a problem

last night i walked out of my girlfreinds house bout 1am and went to leave car wouldnt start, not even turn over

nothing

i had power. lights, radio everything. so i thought it was a fuse. i check all two of the ones that control starting and nope they were fine

i heard the fuel pump turning so i thought if i poped the clutch i could get it to start and it did

but now i still had a car that wouldnt start at all

i have already fixed the problem and i dont know how it happened

but lets see what u guys say

now i will say that it wasnt a fuse, battery, starter or selonoid, and to complete the fix i didnt have to buy anything

your starter is goin bad. Sometimes, it will land in a "bad spot" and current can't flow through. whacking it with a screw driver or something usually jiggles it into a working position.

sometimes it will be messed up every time you start the car for days on end. Then, the problem will just go away for weeks.

Since you had power and the starter just wouldn't turn, but now it does, i'm gonna say your starter is on its way out. start saving your pennies!

First of all get your girlfriend home earlier and you'll have more time to work on your car. Next take your starter apart and clean and oil it. On the commutator (the copper part where the brushes hit) take a pin and clean out all the grooves. Worn copper powder in these grooves creates the flat spot. Grease her up and put it back together, "Git-er-dun."

i think you have a clutch (starter-interrupt) switch that is going bad. if it isn't that #2 I would check the ignition switch.

i was gonna say the bad ground on the starter. happened to me more than twice. happened on a teg which a guy owned and worked with us. Tested for power at the positive terminal, had good power. They were jumping the car and stuff and nothing. So i intervene and i just look for the ground on the starter, push it back and forth to get the deposits off and ask the dude to just start it like normal, and the thing caught. Saw him a month later, and he said he didnt do anyhing to it and it is perfectly fine. funny stuff.

also, it could have been the lead cable. on mine, returning from eglishtown the last time around the car wont even turn over at the gas statio. called up andy (phyedux) and then no avail called up my friend and he came over and he saw sparks eveytime i tried to start it. it ended up to be that the nut that held the lead cable has mysteriously loosened itself and fell. and after tightening it, it ran fine.

the starter doesn't have a ground cable. It grounds to the transmission through its body. The only wires on the starter are the battery wire and the signal wire. Moving those wires either allowed a stronger connection or you jossled the starter barrel into a spot with good electrical connectivity.

oh then probably its the signal wire then. it was the thin one with a spade female connector. i call it a ground lol.

yeah, that's the solenoid signal wire. it acts just like the "Activator" wire on a relay. That's why it can be so small.

what i think is odd is the car ran fine w/out it plugged in guess theres nothing essential plugged in there

the only way i found it was that i needed to move the battery out of my way so i could check the starter. what i found was this, disconnected right behind the battery, a harness sitting there lauging at me

when i conected it the car started right up
