my 89 a/t started to give me a problem after a long ride on highway ....pulled in my garage went to put vehicle in park was hard to get into park once in park tryed to back in drive ...had to rip out of park ... has anybody had this problem ? and can you tell me how i fix this?
all the park setting does is let a little arm come down and lock the mainshaft, it usually only gets stuck if you are on an extreme incline, your selector cable is damaged (very rare, also you'd feel the resistance in almost all gear positions), or you have junk stuck in the selector assembly.
Easiest to diagnose is the junk stuck in the slider, take off the center console's 4 screws and then the 4 that hold the black plastic
