ir depends how much money do you want to spend.
you can have custom made turbo or you canhav stock engine.
it is all in the money man.

Ok it depends on the all mighty dollars and cents.

There are two different routes you can take, each expensive and each will pay off.

    1. Turbo the A20, like justin aka 88turboaccord who's fully rebuilt his motor, and turbo'd it. Currently the car is undergoing some major upgrading he's put a haltech in it, upgrading the fuel system, turbo, etc, etc. Now the A20 is appartently grouse for turboing since it's a Cast Iron block and can without the pounding of a turbo. I hear justin has run his car at like 23psi boost, or more. But this route is expensive, lots of work needs to be done. There's a bit in the FAQ section on this. Costs to turbo, with all the basics you need, not including engine rebuild and other things is around $3k US. Ask justin. But read the FAQ before you do.

    2. Engine Swap, this is next option and there is stuff on this in the faq section. Now you can drop an older B-series DOHC motor into the Accord, such as the old but faithful and original B20A which was found in the JDM 3rd gen accords and 2nd Gen preludes. This'll pretty much bolt in, but read the faq. NOW dont confuse this engine with the B20Ax which is found in 3rd gen preludes 88-91, the engine is the same but different shaping and is practically impossible to fit in the 3rd gen accord. Next option is that you can fit a newer model B series model such as the B16A which is what oldschoolswap had done, its a VTEC motor, but for this you'll need to spend a bit, since you need to get custom shift linkages, engine mounts, wiring, etc. Expect to spend around over $1500 US (umm im just guesstimating here) for what you need, then add X for the motor then X if you pay someone to do it. Other newer B-series motors will bolt in, as well, such as the B20Z found in the CRV's, but look at the faqs, for more info on swap kits speak to placeracings I hear they are excellent for this stuff. The b16a is usually the best way to go, although it's expensive, but it has the beauty of HEAPS of aftermarket support, which the A20 and the B20A don't have. Parts, engine rebuilds even turbo kits are easier to source. The b16a which oldschool has in his car, is ran with 80shot NOS and the car reportedly does 13sec 1/4 miles, although it's crashed now, but he's going to be swapping the b16a into his new 3rd gen.

At the end it's all about what you want to spend, if you want to flash the green then you got a mean machine.

i'm doing a engine swap soon (hopefully) its going to be a brand new 2001 Prelude Se engine
they new engine costs around $3000 Can.
the labour costs around $2500 Can.
little bits and pices $500 Can
so your looking at around $6000 Can if you get it all done by a shop
in my case i'm only paying about $1500 cause i got a friends uncle thats a mech . so hes doing everything durt cheap for me and i also got the engine of a Wrecked prelude so it's a lot cheaper
but then i'm putting in a turbo , supercharger and maybe NOS

so if you have money to waste .. do it or if you just want to be the first and only accord to do a 1/4 in under 10 ... THEN DO IT

Talking engine swap info for 11 seconds

iight man good shit first off good to have another person on board and good job on the info givien already but one thing you will want to look at while buying a new motor if you plan to, is not only the hp and torque it has but check the rpms that those numbers are given at, yea the b16a is a good motor but theres more torque in my stock accord, if you really wanna go fast buy a b18c1 and have the motor set up for a turbo and than if thats isnt fast enough with the turbo make sure that you are running a real low compression ratio but strap a bottle in your trunk, many places you can find motors are http://jspecauto.com/ or www.jdmcars.com or http://streetimports.com/ or http://www.jkjapaneseengines.com/ or http://www.jaydm.com/jdm.htm or www.cjee.com or www.importpartsdirect.com and if you wanna go really really fast than heres my favorite http://www.jgenginedynamics.com/engines2 but hay shop around and read read read, you dont want to get ripped off if you have any more questions you can catch me at [email protected] and if you wanna im me my screenames bsdoubleu iight man good luck

I genuinely thank all of you for this information. I really wanted to know (without taking a class in mechanics), how and what I need to do. I bought this 89 lxi because I always wanted one and this seemed to be the cleanest used car I could find. One thing the guy didn't tell me was that the rear sway bars were finished. So after purchasing the car, insurance, tags and all the neccessary things you need to get this car on the road, after every bump I hit the rear would shift. However, I do love the car and it is very clean so I just get a suspension all around.

I would really like to thank mike bowe, m hegazy , joe bauer and dxhatchback for the real detailed information I needed. The names and places I could get this stuff. Still couldn't get in touch with jblock , but that's ok. Next week I'm going to post a before picture and shortly after you guys will get the finish product!!! Thanks again,

    Chuck Nice- philly philly

my mechanic told me this. I'm hearing everything everyone says and I'm just seeing these responses. When I leave work today, I'm going to look at this engine, the air box and were that alt is. I really don't know too much about (under the hood) engines and how to fix them. I guess that is why I'm a 3geez member. I have an accord, needed info, and ran accross this site. Now I'm hooked because I like the responses / feedback and because of the sources. We have some pretty good people that really do participate.
