Ohh... I try not make friends with ricers. Okay, really, I just try not to make friends. I Love the sound of the Magnaflows, but that Edelbrock unit looks really well built. Anyone know how much they are?

    Re: hybusa or ninja sound

i think the only way youre really going to get that type of sound is if you actually buy a bike lol. honda's will always have the raspiness. even with magnaflow mufflers they sound kinda raspy. the only cool low tone exhaust ive heard and actually liked was off of Acid X's car. i think he has 2.25 mandrel bent piping all the way to a 2.5 magnaflow with a straight angle cut 2.5 tip. that shit sounds great!

cheeseburger's car has a 22" 2.25 ID magnaflow resonator going to a 2.25 straight flow magnaflow muffler and it sounds kinda like a low tone bike but not as defined and it still has the honda rasp.

so unless you buy a bike...i dont think you will get that type of sound sorry

    closest to a bike(sound):

    8 lb flywheel
    4-1 header
    3inch full exhaust
    No cat
    Apexi N1 3inch turbo muffler

It will sound like ass during engine braking, though.

Doesn't give a CFM rating... but it's not like our accord is making that much power that it needs tonnes of flow.

If you're going turbo the turbo will buffer the crappy exhaust note, if you need more silencing then check that the muffler flows as much as the turbo puts out.

It's not to hard to see a straight pipe that flows 500 cfm and a muffler like yours that flows the same would be equal.

    -------------

    1) engine rpm !!!

The only thing you can do is try to increase your rpm... that'll get close to the sound. The 8lbs flywheel would help you rev quicker so that is a start. Good luck though trying to find a muffler(s) that get that sound with no other mods to the rest of the car.

    2) cylinder displacement and probably C/R as well

*) number of cylinders connected to a single muffler; !
, if it's 1 cylinder per muffler or 2 cylinders per muffler, 4 cylinders per muffler, etc.

The more cylinders you cram into one pipe the less you hear each individual cylinder, it'll humm more then pop or gurgle. Though it's hard to hum with less cylinders to start.

    Engine Braking

Engine braking is throwing the car into a lower gear and not putting on the gas... so basily your revs shoot up but your throttle plate is closed... so you get the pumping effect of the cylinders but not enough air is coming in from the intake cause it's closed... so the exhaust reacts to the pressure difference and may pop or backfire or do other odd things.

Not to Be confused With Exhaust Braking, which is slowing down the engine by reducing the vacuum, or pressure(turbo) to the intake by blocking the exhaust.

    Re: hybusa or ninja sound

the reason the bikes sound the way they are is because they can rev all the way into 12-15K range. if you listen to them when they are at 2-5K they sound almost like a car.

    Re: hybusa or ninja sound

If you want a bike sound you need a lower-displacement engine that revs higher. Try for a lower growl.

If you go for the bike sound you're probably going to end up with a car that sounds like a high-performance weedwhacker.

Wait, so the "Toyota" engine in the Lotus Elise is actually a Yamaha engine?
I wonder if they source it from Yamaha or Toyota?

I sound like a harley with 4-1 header and 3" collector
but it's deep not high like a bike sounds... even at 7.5k+ rpms it still doesn't reach the bike sound.

MOvie,Sounds.... two of a kind , jeff danial an some other comic, they play conjoined twins, they live on east co but one wants to become a movie star, they actuallly go to LA, the shy one meets this asian cutie pie, she finally finds out they are conjoined twins, she takes off in her civic ,,turn up the volume guys, it is hilarious,, That is the sound were lookinng for..unfortunatley, without bulletproofing rotating assemblys were not gonna get exactly that, 1000 ti 10000 rev action but check out my last few post , I am the one who mentioned hiboosa sound, cant spell it either... I want the same sound without fartcannorn or ford pinto on thrush turbos... I am going to give it a try by keeping the muffs underneath the car and may even u pipe it to make a dual muff sound before it reaches the major turn in the rear, then out the back with nice resonator turned to an angle and not streight out...we will see.. dajasvous.....there are threads on teh forum addressing this and as ususally A20A1 has a thread that makes a lot of sense somewhere under the forum, I stilll think longer header tubes will help too, A20's thread actually refers to backpressure so use that as search word
my neighbor has both hiboosa and a harley , well IKNOW I CAN MAKE MY HONDA SOUND LIKE HARLEY , kick down the timing and put my old plug wires back on...lol....BTW, HE really does not rev the boosa that much warming it up and it sounds like what Im looking for.. deep, ground rumbling, not raspy at all.

thanks for the correction, I never can amember how ta smell that word..
I am trying a 3 foot smittys and stock pipe to the back , no cat, and a small resonator. Right now all I have is the DC header with the 3 ft smithy and a nine inch turn down cuz I have not been able to finish it< I have the flex pipe at too much of an angle. It sounds like nothing I ever heard, its too dam loud fer sure, at idle it sounds like a 9n tractor but past 2500 it has a good drag car sound. I have mixed opinions about using two glasspacks in place of the three foot Hudson Hawk muffler. When Its all the way out to the back Ill let you know what it sounds like, maybe let the back seat down and record from there. I think having he mufflers under the car instead of out back may have a significant effect on how the cars sound at idle and low rpm.

Dude it's not the exhaust you need to be changing, your forgetting one thing bikes generally some with 4 carbs or 4 ITB's so if you really want to sound like a Bike you need the same

Yea i know, and you have to have some rpm to get some of the bike sound but you can get something at idle if you can at least split the header outlet into two diff mufflers. Hard to do ,not much room under these cars, you could probably stagger them and remove all the heat shields.
shoot me in the head, but Ive heard mitushitty eclipses have the sound Im talking about.

    Re: hybusa or ninja sound

Or you could do the Subaru Imprezza trick of having two primary header pipes at different lengths that will make it sound different!!
Trust me though nothing better than an engine running on ITB's or Webers with 45mm individual bore exiting via 2.25" or bigger exhaust and you will need two mufflers at full throttle, no matter what revs your at!! although at 8k does sound interesting even more so if you get really hardcore when you put bigger valves in your exhaust note will be mental especially with 33mm inlet valves and 37mm exhaust valves the whole thing just roars liek a lion on heat!! If you think about it the more and and fuel that goes in the more explosive it will be to produce more power, the bigger the explosion has a bad side effect it makes more noise!! And it produces more exhaust gas which has to come out quicker and faster which produces more noise again. So tuning your engine up at the smae time will improve your exhaust note and you'll never sound like a another Accord ever again or any other 4 pot engine. You've all seen pics and heard sound clip from mine i know it's not the saem quality as if you are in the car or even better outside the car but if you got a good sound system running it through that will give you some idea.

How did it sound with no muffler on it? Those videos are SWEET by the way...

Shit you need to bring your car up to Vancouver and toss that bitch on the dyno. I'm curious what a fresh engine pulls on the dyno...

Toss the Weber on it if you wanna hear it sound like this:

    Please recommend a quiet exhaust

Hello... I am looking for recommendations on a muffler, preferrably a dual tip.
**I want something that it quiet inside above all...**
worst case I'll get a OEM style dual tip (like the SEi or Ludes)

    Current setup:
    Pacesetter header
    Pacesetter catalytic
    Pacesetter catback piping (2.25"??)
Hooker Aero Chamber muffler offset in, center out
Hooker Euro-style dual tip (cut down at inlet to fit)

    Pros:
    appearance
tone (compared to most Hondas around), it is loudest from 1500 to around 4000, no fart sound at all,
    cost

    cons:
interior sound level is getting annoying.
This muffler is also starting to get a hole.

    Need some good recommendations...
I was looking at Flowmaster Delta 60's (any feedback??), but I can't find any that are offset inlet and center outlet, the closest match are the Delta 50's. I have only found one member who posted their feedback about the Delta 50 and they called it "loud"
I keep seeing the name Remus, I like the dual square tip one, that's on my list as well.

Are there any OEM 6cyl mufflers that will fit (i.e. offset in, center out, about the stock dimensions)?

Re: Please recommend a quiet exhaust

I read many reviews that said Magnaflow muffler was nice looking and low cost but it was very lound in the interior, a drone tone.

I bought offset in/center out b/c that's what the Pacesetter muffler was and I used the Pacesetter piping. I wanted to change the pacesetter because that dumb tip was scraping everywhere and eventualy broke the welds inside the muffler giving it a ricey rattle.
The pacesetter had a nice volume to it, I thought the tip was tacky and the black paint was crap. The Hooker definately sounds more aggressive but lately it is competing with my sound system too much

Re: Please recommend a quiet exhaust

try instaling a resonator. Its also called a premuffler or cherrybomb works good to. Remus ufflers are great! I had one on my hatch. The dul square tip and oh did it sound great. it was a little loud though. i swapped to a magnaflow satinless dual tipped muffler and while it is a great quality piece i am not happy with the sound. It sounds a little raspy compared to my old remus. The beneits of the remus is that it also had resonated tips (perforated inside with glasppac). if you get any muffler get oe wit resonated tips or maybe buy a super turbo and install a good quality resonated tip. the tip alone is gonna run you like 45 bucks.
