hooking up civic intake, what do i do with the hoses???

ok i got my intake, and it has one place for a hose to come off of the tube, i assume this is the one that connects to the valve cover place....

now there are some other hoses that connect to the old intake system that are leading back to a box in the upper left corner of the car? do i just disconnect them and leave them hanging?

basically i want to know what i need to modify or change, other than chopping off part the new intake piping...

if any of you could lend your services, or get on msg messenger to help me out i would REALLY appreciate it. my email addy is [email protected]

    thanks a lot you guys!

well...on my car, I ONLY have one hose going into my Civic intake...you should have 3 holes in your civic intake...two holes and one tube hole...The vacuum hose(I believe that is what it is called) coming from the engine should be the only hose going into the intake...least that is how mine is... hope this helps.

86-87 3 hoses 88-89 1 hose My 92 civic intake came with three holes 2 gromits and 2 caps weird but you will need to drill two holes to fit the two extra tubes.

ok, well i have the bigger hose, the one in the middle, i think i was gonna just cap it off, and put a breather filter on the vavle cover end....

but i guess i need to drill the two holes for the extra hoses right? do you know what size i should drill?

Well from what I remember of the hoses without the grommit jugeing from what I remember 1/4 with a gromith a grommit 3/8
but I would measure the hose first. and drill the hole a little smaller.

gotcha! i will go check it out...

can i use a plug on the intake side, and a breather filter on the vavle cover side of that one hose that i current have?

i know i will still have to drill and connect the two hoses from underneath!

alright, thanks for the reply.. tomorrow i will just do it right and go down to home depot for the grommets... i am looking for a 1/4 ID, and preferably a 3/8 OD? then i drill a 3/8 hole and wiggle the grommet in there to the hose has something to grip to and protect it?

lol i know i am an ultimate NEWB. but i have never done any car stuff before, i will get it though! have faith!

at least i am not paying some fucking shop to do it !

and thank you for your help!

btw would this intake actually help much? i am gonna have headers on this weekend so i expect to notice some more pick up after that!

Yes it will help and here is a tip about headers if your car runs damn crappy after you get headers and has no lowend and takes off like a rocket in the highend swich your O2 sensor wires and no I am not joking. Many people have had that problem I did too.

well i havent messed with anything under the hood for the headers yet, but i am assuming its just a 2 wire sensor, and you are suggesting flipping them? would this require soldering or anything? or is it more simple than that???

    thanks for the tip!

Shit I am tired I forgot you have an 86 never mind but you will have to plug an extra O2 sensor hole so but an extra one do a tuneup and use the dead one to plug the hole. BTW 88-89 have 2 sensors.

The brand new o2 sensor I supplied with your header is a plug and play sensor. Do nothing but pick up the plug it allready has and plug it into the plug that's in the engine bay,...DONE. No cutting of wire, no switching of wires. I paid extra to get the sensor that was allready wired

    EDIT:
hahaha... well i reread these posts, and it makes sense now. i understand teh o2 sensor talk, since we are talking about the headers... i understand that the 86 has only 1 sensor, but the headers have two holes. jim, is that extra hole already plugged up? i know there is a good sensor that you sent up, but i am not sure if you sent up 2 sensors..

i just confused myself earlier, i shouldnt be awake this early. i guess the intake project is still easy! :-) goodie goodie!

    thanks for your help....

Ok the big hose is to vent oil gas that is later burned by the pcv valve if you put a breather on it then do not worry about that hose just connect the two little hoses.

(This is for the header) As for the O2 sensor the 86-87 only has one and the header you will get has 2 holes because it is designed for an 88 or 89 so just use jims new sensor and use your old one to plug up the other hole.

I do not know get the day off get a friend and go at it just to be safe I got in done rather wuick but I had a frends help maybe hour and a half two hours. Biggest problem we had was disconecting al the stuff drom te stock manifold. If I can sugest some things to pick up some bolt loosner a O2 sensor socket and some antiseze high temp for the EGR valve and O2 sensors.. This will make life easy in the end.

yeah i have the next 3 days off. and today... so that should be adequite!

bolt loosener? like liquid wrench or wd40?
umm where can i get high temp anti seize and the o2 sensor socket? btw i dont know what those are... dont the headers have the socket for the sensor now? the good sensor is already plugged in i assume, so are you talking about getting a socket for the "extra" hole?

i am sure ace hardware or home depot would have all this right?

Ok an o2 sensor sockeet like for a socket wrench it is a special socket with part gut out for removing O2 sensors I see them at pepboys and I assume you can get antiseze their but I got it nappa one day. What Antiseze does is when you put the valve back in or the sensors you put it on the threads and it makes t damn east to take them back out later.. Finally yea like liquid wrench or wd 40.

ok, well i picked up all those parts for the headers, and my "help" want to do the header project this afternoon! yay!

i have another question about the intake project though.

i bought a ton of grommets, so i can get the 2 hoses onto the intake tube, and i bought a plug and a breather filter, so the other hose is taken care of. but there is another hose i found. and i dont know what to do with it. it connects near the air box. and its in a smallish case that is screwed onto the main airbox unit. i dont know what to do, since i thought i was gonna be takeing the WHOLE airbox peice out. in all the pics i see it looks like its gone. so what is the fate of this hose? do i need to plug off the other end? or just remove the hose altogether?

after looking at it closer, there are more hoses... i dont know what to do with them... if i can keep that little "box" that attaches to the air box, then all the hoses can stay in place, but i dont think they will do any good!

please someone post what they did with all the hoses that are on the other end of the throttle body... i am so dumb!

ok, well i got technical and found out the names of the stuff i am talking about!

the first one comes off of the idle control solonoid vavle, and i am wondering what to do with the bottom hose of the two that are connected, the top one goes to the throttle body already.

the second hose is the bottom hose coming off of the idle up vavle.

both of these hoses used to connect to a little black box which is attached to the air box. the label on this box is pj0-660

what do i do with these hoses?

ok well i drilled the holes as i was supposed to, and then i took the "extra" two hoses, and used the old box they were attached to, and put a 9mm breather on the other end. i dont know if this is bad or not, but the car runs great!
