front bumper, front headlight trim, front grille, gauges, front corner markers, front turnsignals, somtimes the wheels are a giveaway too. If you need to find the exact year of the car, run the vin number

Id there anyway to distinguish(sp?) between an 86 to an 87 or an 88 to an 89 if i just see them driving? I really dont think so...I always find myself doing this, ill see the tails or the side markers and know between the 86-87 and 88-89 right away, but after that i cant get anymore specific. Just wondering if it could be done...

Hubcaps, tail lights, sidemarkers, grille, eyebrows, bumpers, and door mouldings are all different on the sedan between 86 87 and 88 89 I believe.

86-87 bumpers are black on top. 88-89 bumpers are body colored with black strips. On the DX's the bumper style difference remains, but the bumpers themselves would be all black, except on the 88-89 DX coupe. There are other things, too, as mentioned above. I have noticed differences in the upholstery fabric choices, too. The door jamb sticker is the sure bet.

86 and 87 corner lights are almost all orange, 88 and 89 have small rectangular reflector in the center

ya, ya, ya....all that stuf is obvious, but what about the difference between the 86 and 87? What about an 88 and a 89? The only thing i know is that if its an se-i, its an 89. I got nothing to distinguish the exact year....Can it be done?

nope. There weren't significant changes between the years to distinguish them by it driving by your eyes.

door sticker doesn't show the year model of a vehicle, just the date of manufacture. my 1988 was manufactured in november '87.
Four cars (and one motorcycle) in three years and not one with a cupholder...this is the story of my life.
