Cheap way to Fix Sunroof Rear Drain Hoses in Trunk PART 1

After wondering why there was constantly water on my floor of my car and it was wet in my trunk (destroying my tools), I finally ripped apart the trunk (thanks to a suggestion I read about here for location of the drainage hoses).

So I take off all the plastic sides only to find the drain hoses just hanging behind it and a whole pile of rust.

I could not figure out what they drained into, I checked the shop manual and it does not show from what I was looking at the setup for where the water goes. Upon seeing that the tubes were clogged with crap and actually slowly draining into the trunk (so rusted that there are holes through the trunk u can see the ground when looking down at them) and then into the back of the car.

Cheap way to Fix Sunroof Rear Drain Hoses in Trunk PART 2

So I figure what the hell am I supposted to do now. I really don't want to spend too much money so I dig out some stuff from the basement tool room.

    1 tube of caulking
2 Funnels from local dollar store
    2 old Plastic water bottles
    and a pair of sissors

I take the water bottle and remove the label, then cut the water bottle in half. Then fill the opening on the inside with caulking

but being careful not to fill it entirely in (so you can slip the funnel though.

I then pushed the funnel into the water bottle (the water bottle ends up being a holding tank incase there is alot of water running through the hose for
    whatever reason

I then caulked around a hole in the trunk where the water appeared to have rusted through.

I then inserted the funnel and water bottle through the hole carefully so as to not cover over the funnels hole and block the opening with caulking,

I then placed the drain tube inside

You can do the same for the left side drain tube as well.
I know most people will laugh at this but someone might find it useful (budget minded)

    Thanks
    Mike

Sorry to say that by using all that silicone you just made a breeding ground for the rust! Silicone reacts with metal and increases the speed of the rusting process.
Silicone is the worst thing you can put on metal.

Anything Urethane based. Most marine adhesives are Urethane, or if you have Westbay Auto Parts in your area, they sell a 3M Urethane.
Or find a Auto Glass company and they can sell you a tube of it.
