I'm looking at buying an AEM intake from an 1990-1993 acura integra soon(i know that i could probably get a custom one for cheaper, but the idea of an aem intake is so intriguing). I understand that i would have to cut some of the piping, i was wondering aboput how much would i have to cut? I also checked some old posts and noticed one person who had done this used a smaller pipe from a civic short ram at the end of the intake, is this necessary too?

thats all one unit and wont fit around the fuse box, i can guarentee it. Im currently building mine right now, and im having problems getting around the battery and the fuse box, then getting the battery to fit between the radiator hoses and the intake.... i havent really put ALOT of thought into it yet, since ive just been trying to get everything cut to fit, etc. so tomorrow when i have all day to work on it im going to think of something.
Id suggest going to your local exhaust shop, pickup a peice of 2-2.5" 180* bent tubing, and some rubber hose clamps from your local hardware store, a k&n off ebay, and cut to fit. Youll get the same power, half the price, with a REAL filter... not those ricer intake POS filters.
If you bought somthing like that you'd need extra couplings and hose clamps to hold the pipe together where you cut it.

ok, i've been doing some searching, and i see that the CAI for the 1994-1997 Accord will work too. Do you all know which requires less modification? I'm not much for building stuff for cars, seeing as to how this is my first one and I've never really worked with this kind of stuff before, so that is why I'd rather not build my own. The less work the better (horrible mindset, i know...) but I don't want to go to a short ram, because I was looking over the old test results with the RSX, and noticed that there is a 20HP gain with the AEM CAI.
or would anyone just be willing to sell be a custom CAI that i can pretty much just bolt on.

you wont get 20 hp for sure, it's more like 3 hp, the cai tend to give more torque then anything.
just get a 90-93 integra one, or accord of the same year, the cheapo one from ebay for like 25 bucks. that one comes in 3 pipes i think, it's easier to cut this. not much modification, don't worry. this is derek's integra cai.

i bought piping, painted it with ceramic high-temperature, cut it and coupled it all together.
was my first mod. it's easy, effective, and actually is better than buying one for another car without all the restrictive curves. sorry for the large size

you should get that. At least thats what I think I got. Anyways..the only thing AEM comes with is a sticker for carb legal which helps with smog. =)
ive seen the research. over 6 brands on a brand new 2003 RSX-S the horsepower gains over stock on the car (the research said that RSX was 155 hp stock, wondering if thats right or not) showed a 20 horsepower gain. cant remember if there was dyno sheets with it, but it was a sportcompact tuner magazine article
some cars (esp the newer ones) can show a greater increase over stock, but the 3g accord won't see those kinds of gains.
I bought a 5th gen accord (94-97) CAI off ebay for 40 bucks shipped to my door and it worked perfectly. All i had to do is cut out the hole in the fender so the pipe would fit, but you're going to have to do that with ANY CAI you install. I also had to cut a little bit off the end so the filter could fit down inside the bumper, but thats no thing at all either.

You have to keep in mind the RSX is a complete different car to us. They more computer controlled and restrictive when it comes to stock power. It is amazing how well they respond to basic bolt ons as if Honda forced these motors to be less hp to meet emission standards. Don't expect a magical 20hp because we put in a CAI. It just won't happen. I wouldn't even expect more than 4-5hp since our cars are low hp and high mileage.
If any, the 4g accord CAI seemed like a better investment. a good filter and a good paint on it will improve the top speed and as for the power, not much for our cars, even if like 1 or 2hp at the most. even with the full exhaust and a cai on an S2000, they got only 6 or 7hp outta the mods. So with a motor like ours, dont think we will do anything great, but one thign for sure, you will get a good gas milage. now im running 40psi of fuel pressure and still pulling 27mpg on a city and 43 mpg on highway.
This is how mine looks. it was made from 2" ID aluminized 180deg mandrel bent tube from JCW. The battery is in the trunk. ((Please pardon the shitty engine ba))
but of the three (90-3 integ, 90-3 accord, and 94-7 accord), which fits with the least mods?
i dont think you could say exactly which one works the best, without having all 3 of them there to compare. When i put mine in, all i had to do was flip the battery tray 90 degrees and cut the hole in the fender bigger to allow the bigger pipe to fit down into the bumper.

so so far, 5th gen accord = rotate battery 90 degrees. (and cut hole in bumper, but that's for all of them so i'm not counting that.)
90-93 integ
I took out the battery and placed the pipe there. measured what was needed to be cut off and then cut it off and then put all the couplings in and that was it. The battery is still in the stock position.
i didnt say 20 hp, i was explaining how he got his 20 hp stuff, miscommunication
