    Sleeper Style Muffler

Well in preperation for my engine swap I decided to get a better looking muffler, that looked completely stock. I used a 2001 Eclipse V6 muffler and I have 2 1/4 pipeing all the way to the cat. The muffler tip is actually angles to the left so it was a little tricky to get such a big muffler with an angles tip to look resonably stock. The muffler itself has 2 1/4 pipeing through it and sounds very aggressive.

I have a muffler laying around with dual tips off the turbo eclipse, it's the early 90's version though. I saved it when I put on the Turbo N1. It's too much weight for a muffler IMO, even my stainless was lighter.

I knew alot of you guys would be able to tell that there is something strange with the muffler, but most people you meet on the road wouldnt even notice untill they heard it. That is what I am mainly going for a restored 3gee with some rims and a drop, but thats just what people will be able to see on the outside . As for the weight of the muffler, it is very light .

it doesnt look that bad. its kinda big, but not unreasonable so. I like the way those mufflers sound on the eclipses so i bet it sounds pretty good.

not bad, but not my taste, either... since i have the ability to run without a cat, i'll move my resonator and put a small muffler where the resonator was...

of course i won't do anything until i have a welder of my own to work with... that way if i don't like it, i can easily change it...

at least it's not a fart-cannon with a huge tip and sounds like an angry weedeater. those piss me off to no end.

it would look better if you could tuck it up towards the body a bit more, though.

oh, and some muffler black paint would help out, too.

Thats the way to do it, I wish I had a welder I could save so much on all my exhaust work I like to do to my cars. As for the fart can thing I bought the car with a muffler I didnet really like , but I cant complain because the deal I got . Heres a pic of the old muffler (by the way it was so loud with the header and full cat back)

yo man that muffler would look sick if it was tucked up a lil bit more. I was watching some Bestmotoring stuff and all the mufflers were tucked and I was like thats soo hawt.
my car is stock it just likes sittn lower to the ground than most cars:
Lowes 3" CAI W/filter, hackd off mufflar, MSD Blaster 2 coil and bosch Platinum spark plugs&wires...she roars all the way to 6K

it's really not possible, because the muffler is quit large (made for a 3.0L V6 eclipse). I tried to get it up in there, but the only way to do that would be to remove the tow hooks and head shield. That would probaly not be a good idea with the gas tank being right there and everything. The tip is also as an angle so I had to angle the muffler to make the tip strait.

You may get more vapor in the tank if the muffler is to close. I learned that the hard way when I first started to install mufflers.

to my suprise it actually is a strait thru muffler, Mitsu(ford)bishi actually put some effort into the design of this muffler.

well actually it runs great, but the knocking noise in the motor (Lifter probely) keeps getting louder. I havent had any major repairs yet, and all the money I have put into it was either for performance or regular maitenence. For 276,000 miles the car runs great. I think the ball joints are going to need to be replaced when I get my new struts and the power steering pump is going out, but I was going to remove that anyways . I will kepp you updated with the swap.
