Question sputtering and a few other problems(exi/automatic)

Today i was driving my car for a few hours. I noticed after a few hours of driving my car had problems. First gear to second gear shift was very harsh, so harsh that it vibrated the front end of the car most of the time it shifted. Another problem i had was when i was waiting at a red light, the light turned green and when i hit the gas, the engine sputtered and i thought it was going to stall like it did before, but it didnt. The final problem that i encountered was a temporary problem that i had, it was stuck in first gear until i put it in D2, then it shifted and then i had to bump it back up to D4 until it worked fine again. That problem happened once before a few weeks ago too.

I was wondering if anybody knows what went wrong with the problems i had above. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A little bit about my car:
    its from 1986
    fuel injected
    318,000km(not miles)
replaced spark plug wires about a week ago
drained and refilled transmission fluid about a week ago
oil changed about a week ago
its an automatic(if you havent already known)

I bought this car for $700 CDN, i guess you get what you pay for
Before i bought this car it had been sitting around for a few years, the moment i bought it, i drained the old tank of gas and ran the car until it was all empty, then i filled it with a new tank of gas and a fuel system treatment

If it was sitting too long you'll probably have to replace your fuel filter (tucked against your firewall). This might be causing the sputtering, insufficient fuel supply.

You say you replaced your tranny fluid, but did you FLUSH the system?
I had mine replaced, then later spent $100 to power FLUSH it and that made a difference: shifted smoother, felt like the whole car ran lighter, not just when shifting.

BTW, my LX has TWO fuel filters. One in the engine compartment and one near the fuel tank.

    Peace.

i'd think twice about doing a flush on a transmission with over 300k on it.

double check that your fluid level is good. when you drain it and refill it, you have to put through the gears and then usually add some more fluid.

when i drained the tranny fluid and replaced it i shifted it into each gear several times to distribute the new fluid and then topped it off as needed

No, you can't flush it yourself.

A good transmission shop uses a machine (pump) that connects to your inlet/outlet and pumps in/out new fluid — the ENTIRE amount, not just the 1/3 you do when you just drain and add. Do not let a shop tell you it doesn't make a difference, it does.

I had some worry about flushing my AT fluid w/ my 220,000 mi. car. But I looked at my fluid when I just replaced it and saw no heavy build up and it was just a little dark.

The reputable transmission shop I went to said no worries, if there was so much sediment in it I would have fragged the torque converter by now.

Still .... I looked at it this way: Spend a $100 bucks. If that's all it takes, great, you have a tranny that works like it should.

If a power flush doesn't help, you have only spent a $100 extra before having to put in a new tranny anyway.
