HEEEEEEEEELP Me With My Friggin EFI Please...

    Hi all,

I need some assistance with the EFI on my kick ass prehistoric accord.

I've got an 87, Fuel injected, Automatic, 2.0Si accord with major fuel injection problems.

It misses pretty bad when idling, (sounds like a tuning fault, but it's been tuned to no avial) and my idle is waaaay too high, sits on over 2000rpm in neutral and about 1500 when in drive..... Idle seems to drop a bit when car heats up, but only to about 1200rpm in drive...... She also surges like crazy when idling or when i take my foot off the accel to slow down.

I took it and had the fuel injectors cleaned and replaced, and they told me that the only way to reduce my idle was to replace the wax pallet (i thought that was a crock of shit, and i can't get one from honda anyways they tell me my old girl is too old

Does anyone have suggestions as to what may be wrong with my honey honda?? It's driving me bonkers..

    Cheers!

first, does your EFI light stays on?
if it does find out what code does it give you and we will go from there.

Hmmm, it sould be many things.

Maybe the intake manifold gasket is leaking or you have a vacuum leak. Tey to spway carb cleaner between the intake manifold an head. Also spray it on the vaccuum hoses.

Oh, the car isn't too old. The dealer can still get everything for these cars, at least in North-America.

    Hi guys

    Hi guys,

Thanks for replying so quickly, I really appreciate that.

Ok, first of all, my PGMFI light never comes on, at least when the engine is running. It stays on for about 2 seconds when I first turn the ignition on, but that's just doing it's self check or something isn't it? I have never had a problem with the light staying on...

I have absolutely no loss of power what so ever.. she still goes like a rocket for such an old girl..

I was reading back a few pages in the forum, and I downloaded the manual thing for the engine, and I read all the peoples replies to the similar problems they were having. I ended up dismantling half my motor to find what you guys were saying was the yellow idle adjust screw.

Eventually I found it, but it wasn't yellow and it's right above the air intake in the most obvious spot you can imagine! hehe. Anyways, I adjusted the screw and my idle dropped to about 400, so I fine tuned it and got it to about 800. Idles sweet now.

I also adjusted my fast idle too, and that stopped it surging when changing down gears, however i do still have one major problem.

Not sure if it's timing, or what, but with the idle being so low now (the lowest it's been EVER! Woooo!!!!!) when the car does it's usual spluttering shit like it's missing or not burning the fuel properly it borderline stalls. Sounds like a charf cutter. It's just strange, it's never ran rough before, and that was my main concern.. the fact i fixed the idle in the fault finding process was just AWESOME! wooo yea! lol

Any suggestions? And thanks for replying so quick!

    ;-)

The idle to me is a smidge low you should set it in neutral and in Drive. 800 rpm in drive sounds better but im a 5 speed man.

    Something More sinister

    Hi guys,

Forget my previous post telling you i had fixed my idle problem....

by adjusting the idle screw it fixed the problem for a few days, but she's back to her same old tricks again!

It idles so rough it's not funny, even when it's in neutral.. stumps me. i think i'll check for ecu codes, but i think it's something more sinister. i just don't understand why she's running so rich and rough.

How's your timing? did it skip a tooth?

Also, you said that your car might be missing or something like that. Have you checked your spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap?

    Also, do a compression test

when was the last time it had a tune up? i would do a full tune up, and then move to vacuum lines from there. i'm about to replace all the vacuum hoses in my car, just cuz i know there will be a leak sooner or later, and i don't want to have to deal with finding it...
