    Exclamation 88-89 Prelude DOHC??

i was in the junk yard... my second home .. and came across this old red lude... it was an 88 i believe... so i popped the hood and sure enough there was a motor... what it was i have no idea.. but it was a DOHC for sure.... not sure if it was a Vtec... but it was a DOHC motor... NOW.. my question is... i believe this motor is a 1.8L... My 3g.. is a 2L... is it possible to swap the DOHC lude head onto my A20?? IF NOT!!! is it possible to swap in the DOHC motor into my engine bay? i mean it looks the same size... not only this but the Lude is a 5speed a nice step up from myd amned auto if you ask me... but yeah input is welcome!!! thanks!

well congratilations you just found B20a3 or B20A5.
    they both came from prelude.
B20A3 dual sidedraft( good for weber set up), 100hp@5500rpm, 111ft. lbs.@4800rpm
    B20A5 MPFI, 135hp@6200 127ft.lbs.@4500
i am not sure if you can drop it into our accord without anymods.

Forget it. Place Racing tried to get one in, and said it's a pain beyond belief. I'd just get a B16 before attempting that.

i think the only prelude motor that will fit in our cars without a big headache is in the 2 gen si.it has the same a20 as our cars from what i can tell from the one i just bought

Thats where you guys are wrong, the JDM Spec Honda Accord carried that exact engine, but it had the USDM Spec Intake Manifold on it, That engine swaps right into our car with no problems. You might althogh need to Program the EFI, or use the Lude's EFI.

This is a JDM accord motor. It is exactly the same as the USDM spec Prelude B20A1 motor. This one here is perfect for those people outthere with their SOHC Honda Accord SE-i's and LX-i's. It is DOHC like the prelude but has the Accord intake manifold of the USDM spec cars. If you hadever seen the USDM prelude intake manifolds, they are different because the air filter is not located at the intake manifold. Rather, it is located next to the motor inside a canister. It is assumed that the USDM Prelude ECU will plug right into this motor. The one pictured here is manual.

That post I made about that B20A1, I didn't write all that, I got that off of a JDM Parts Website. After I read that I ran outside to look in my dads Prelude and sure enough there it is, a B20A1, It was dirty as hell but looked like a fun lil conversion, so I'm keeping an eye out for a junked Prelude.

They both say B20 but the Prelude one as you will notice when you look in your dad's car tilts back while the JDM 3rd gen Accord 2nd gen Lude tilts forward. Also the tranny between the 3rd gen Lude B20 and JDM 3rd gen Accord B20 aren't interchangable.

Then why in the hell does this JDM Parts Store state that the JDM Accord's engine is IDENTICAL to the USDM's Lude???? Not tryin to be mean but I think I will trust a JDM Parts Store.

That's fine (I'm not offended or anything). You don't have to listen but this is something that has come up many times since this board started a couple years ago. The tech guy from Place Racing even came by once to explain what a nightmare it was get the USDM B20 engine in our cars. They never finished the project.
Now the JDM B20 from the 3rd gen Accord 2nd gen Lude I have seen up close since my friend Mike (89sei on this board) has one. I know of the problems he had, the parts that are interchangeable between the USDM and JDM, and so on. Carotman, B20turbo, AccordEXI have a lot of info on this too. We don't say stuff that is made up. If the JDM parts store is talking about the JDM B20 we are talking about, then they are correct except that it is NOT exactly the same as the USDM B20 (very simular but not the same).

By the way, how much did they want for that motor and 5 speed tranny (assuming it is the JDM Accord B20)?? Did they also say they have or can get the rear mount, axles and stuff?? Just curious. Maybe someone here would like to buy that.

Engine swap if you need more detailed info on what you need to buy with the engine/tranny or Marketplace with contact info of the shop that has them so anyone interested can contact them.
