    Resoldering Main Relay

    Hi Guys!

Im having a starting issue where my accord wont crank over at all but it will start with a push start.

Im thinking that the main relay would be a good place to start as the starter motor was reconditioned not so long ago

I found the How to thread :
    https://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?...ght=main+relay

Only issue is that the link to the instructions is not working

Does anyone have some pictures or instructions, im mostly interested in the location of the main relay.

Multiple searches failed to find what i was looking for

    Thanks!

I just changed mine so I will try to explain:

take out your coin box and take of the kick panel under the dash to expose your fuse bank. you should be able to use an ratchet with an extension and a 10mm socket to get the fuse bank bolts. I think there are only two bolts, then you should be able to pull the fuses down (you might have to disconect one or two wires). it's a tight squeeze but you can wiggle it out.

then, get on the floor and look up, into the dash. just above and to the left (driver's side) is a small black box that is held in by two more 10mm bolts. it is not the flat silver box, that is cruise control.

when you first see the main relay, you will say "WTF Honda! That will never come out!" But a ratchet and extension should work.

When I replaced mine I mounted it on the outside of the dash incase I need to replace it again or fiddle with it.

edit: I see you are in Australia so this may not be relevant, but the USDM 3Gs had Mitusba main relays. so if the box you pull out says Mitsuba, you know you pulled the right part. Apparently, this company used a crappy wave soldering method on these relays and lots of hondas develop this problem.

A good way to check if it is the main relay causing the problem is to turn your key to II position and listen for a click coming from under the dash, or for the fuel pump turning on. if there is no noise, your relay isn't working.

there is a great walkthrough online with pics of the relay and how to resolder it but its hard to find, I'm looking for it right now.

Perfection is simply a matter of replacing parts.

PUll the outer brown casing apart to expose all the solders, and then resolder the old solders either with new lead or just an iron.

bad Main relay means you have no fuel but it cranks and has spark. If you can push start it you have fuel and spark.
