I've been lurking here for awhile and have seached a lot but finally decided I need some specific help.
I got a free '89 lx a month or so ago from my sisters friend. It had just been sitting in their carport for over a year but looked in pretty good shape so I took it off their hands to see what I could do with it. The main thing with this is that I don't want to get into it much money wise. So here's what's gone down so far.
I had it on the charger for a long time and it kinda wanted to turn over but wouldn't so I hooked it to the SRT and then it really started cranking over. It started finally and went into high idle mode (~3k rpm) but died when it came out of high (dieseled a bit first). So, I knew it would run and was worth more attention to make it good. I replaced plugs, wires, cleaned distributor, replaced some of the really hard vac tubes, and changed oil/filter/air filter.
It starts alright but always dies in normal idle mode. If I rev it up the engine sounds nice and smooth but struggles getting much below 2K. After replacing more vac lines and starring at TONS of insanely confusing vac diagrams from that Russian site and others I found on here I noticed that my carb was missing some of the lines (not lines but actual pipes into the carb w/ bearings stuffed into the remaining hole) and had a few plugged lines. It looks like someone in the past tried some vac removal. Not knowing if this was the prob, or vac leak, or carb gaskets... I just went to the junk yard a took the carb off of a '88 lx they had just gotten that said it "ran good". Anyway, it looked good. I have it in but now I'm really confused about some vac lines. My carb seems to have some extras and I'm confused in general. I'd love it if someone could take some photos of their carb at different angles so I could get some of the routing right.
In this pic you can see the pipe (line?) just over the top of the carb. I have no idea where this needs to go. You can see it in the other pics too.
This section is on the drivers side of the carb down low. All the diagrams I've seen only show one vac line but this has two so I don't know which needs to go where. Other pics are for you to look at my mistakes.
I just need to get this thing put together right before I blame the idle prob on anything else. Also, when I do get it together I'm unsure on the order of adjusting things. I went through that other post that ended up being a distributor prob but I'm still off a bit on adjustment. People talk about throttle adj. but all the pics point out the stop screw and mixture screws. None say THIS is the throttle adj. Is it just adjusted with the bolts on the throttle cable?
