Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do for a manual. At least for a 3G manual.Originally Posted by 89AccordResto

wait, so everyone on here puts regular motor oil in their trans????:wt:
I use sythetic oil, 10w-30. Looks like all the additives aren't worth a damn & one person had bad results with syncoshit, I mean syncromesh.
.
what about 20w-50??? does it have to be sythetic?? i never knew we could use regular oil so thats what im asking (i feel like such a n00b )
Weird. Allt eh manuals I've used required manual transmission fluid.
ive ehard that motor oil works but tis better to use thicker stuff
Thicker oil should be the way to go. I used what was free, upgrade in the future. Had some kind of gear oil in it when I bought it.
.
Hey, Just wanted to say this, I used Royal Purple Synronizer something cant remember what it was called and replaced my transmission oil with it 3 quarts i think, because my 1st to 2nd gear would grind at high RPM and it was hard to get it in gear it wouldnt just fall in... So i put that stuff in it worked really good for like 2 weeks and then it started coming back but im gonna get a new tranny anyways so i dont care but i do use royal purple oil in my car that stuff is fuckin sweet i think (I know oil is oil) but i think it runs alittle smoother and better with it
Royal purple isn't all that and a bag of chips. Search for oil tests.
My tranny's had motor oil in it, since I got it, pretty sure it was 10W-40. I might switch to something thicker after reading this thread, though, especially since 3rd gear is starting to grind due to the abuse my mom and aunt put on the car before I got it a few years ago.Originally Posted by ddude2uc
I think i might pick up something like synchro mesh, my tranny has been grinding a little going into 3rd at higher rpms.
I used syncromesh on a tranny that was grinding first, second, and third. Now the tranny has no grinds and shift very smooth. I used 2 1/2 QTs, because you are suppose to completely replace your tranny oil. Also I never even heard of manual transmission oil, all I ever used was motor oil for a manual tranny.
Usually it's gear oil. But not engine oil. THat's just weird.Originally Posted by Legend_master

you can use 10w30, but in honda trannies it tends to make them feel notchy. Honda MTF is the best stuff to use if youre tranny is in good condition. If you have a bad grind, i dont care what crazy ghetto bob says, syncromesh is the shit

Yeah. If I was going to flush my transmission I'd use the factory transmission oil.Originally Posted by AccordEpicenter

RTFM (Read The Fxking Manual) Honda specifies 10-40 MOTOR OIL. I changed mine this past weekend and added some lucas transmission fix and it seems to work quite well.
Honda as since switched to its own blend of MTF. Several folks I have talked to say it quite good and works fine in their G3 Accord.
I wonder what the viscocity of the Syncormesh is? Any body seen a rating for it?
Once again do not put heavy gear oil in a Honda tranny unless you want to kill it. It is a leading cause of the dreaded 5th gear failure due to the fact that it is too thick to make it all the way up to that gear from the pool at the bottom. Of course the leading cause of 5th gear failure is not having enough oil in the tranny.

Hope you weren't using synthetic.Originally Posted by pmpete

No I won't waste my money on that expensive shit. When good old Dino oil will do the trick with a little help. Beside if you have any leaks Synth will find a way to wiggle out them.

i had 80w90 in mine...only time i had trouble was when it was stupidly cold out and the 1-2 shift was a bit sluggish...but once the motor warmed up it was fine
80w90 is wayyy too thick man thats heavy gear oil. I think syncromesh is approximatley 10w-40 ish thick, but it might be like 20w50 weight... i cant remember, its not gear oil thick though

Thick oil would hurt your MPG I would imagine.
Holy crap...
My car was grinding into third pretty bad, and grinding on a lot of downshifts.
I just drained all of my old oil out and filled it with synchromesh (i found out penzoil makes the gm stuff, so i went with penzoild ebacuase it costs about half)
Leme say, its like having a new tranny compared to how it was.
The shifter 'clicks' into gears like a new car.
I love it.
yeah, but its not the friction modified version. They say the gm friction modified version is a bit better. But see, this shit works. 89accordresto was banned? I knew he liked to start shit but what did he get banned for?
