the fumes are making me dizzy and sick....okay for about a week now I have had this gasoline smell right near the roof inside the cabin...I did have a few gas cans in the trunk and when i went back there...it smelled really badly of gas..but i removed those cans and its still smells like that near the front...I have checked for exhaust leaks and fual leaks and I have none..i checked the new fuel filter I just replaced and its clean and dry....help

I once ran into what seemed to be an unsolvable gas smell issue in the Accord. As I was pulling up the carpet on the driver's side to check the hard lines, I decided to check the gas cap. Sure enough it was screwed on crooked. I'd check that if I were you. I'm not sure how the gas smell ended up inside the car from the gas cap, but it sure smelled strong until I closed it correctly. Other than that, check those hardlines, maybe leave the doors/trunk open overnight (disable the lights to avoid battery drain). Just my $.02

Maybe its still left over fumes? If its gas fumes and not exhaust fumes, just do what he said, leave everything open overnight.

I had that kinda smell for a while too... turned out the pressure release on my gas cap was gone and with the summer heat it was venting pressure and fumes all day long.
The air in the fuel tank is full of gas fumes that evaporated off the liquid fuel. This fumes want to escape the tank and will eventually. Emissions require that manufacturers control this evaporation to prevent hydrocarbons from entering the atmosphere. The fumes are vented to a canister that is mounted to the firewall in the engine bay. Periodically these fuel vapors are vented into the intake and burned.
I had the same problem and found a leak in the red fabric insulated hose connecting the canister to the intake. You may want to check that hose because if it is leaking, the fumes can be blown right into the cabin. The canister is located near the fuel filter.
The canister could also be faulty because it stores these fumes untill the pressure activates some sort of valve to allow the fumes to vent to the intake. This valve could be stuck open, venting vapors all the time or the canister itself could actually be leaking.

check the filler neck for rust, remove the driver rear wheel for a better look. Also check the fuel evap parts on the firewall.

....just waiting for a call back from the dealership for mine while they order the part in: if I fill gas right to the top, it leaks out.
soundy, did u get that filler pipe for free since it's a recall?
or does the car have to be under warranty?

a common problem on carbed cars is the fuel bowl vent diaphram,the vaccume diaphram in it goes bad and causes fuel bowl vent problems. the only person i know who rebuilds these is carburator specialists in mariettta georgia,they are in the phone book, and they do mail order,you will need one from another carb for a core to rebuild. they do them in house. if you look t the book to see where the valve is,there is a big hose going to the vacccume canister and a small vaccume hose attached above that,, it should hold vaccume with a hand vaccume pump. this valve switches the bowl vent betwen the vaccume canister when the car is off to outside air when the car is running. the valve is on the drivers side of the carb. you can't miss it,it sticks way out of the side of the carb and attaches with two small machine screws. if the d shaped o ring on it goes bad it can also cause a fuel smell. this seals it to the side of the carb. what happens is this valve vaccume diaphram gets exposed to fuel vapors over the years and turns into tar. it's close to a hundred bucks to get it fixed but it's sure cheaper then a new one. there are no parts made to repair it, so they make their own parts there in Marietta .

Yeah, farking board glitched on me when I was posting...
All you have to do is call the dealer (or visit the service department) and ask them to look up any recalls on your car. They can plug in the VIN number and see if these recalls apply to you. Make sure you write down the VIN so you have it handy when you call/visit.
