OBD-0 OBD-1 confusion :(

I see all this talk of OBD-0 and OBD-1 and people wanting to convert to OBD-1. I am very lost here. What is OBD-0 and what is OBD-1? Differences? Advantages/Disadvantages? What is involved in a conversion?

Also, what does OBD stand for?
