So lately there has been very high humidity here, and every morning i put the key into the ON position like usual for about 3 secs, then i pump the gas 2 times and start it. Lately it will start but 3 secs later it dies, then you try about 2 more times to crank it and it will catch but die. Then the next crank it starts. The car does stay outside but wtf?

the 2nd time you pump it, try holding it down instead maybe. thats what i do, starts 1st pop, if i just turn the key without assisting the throttle it takes about 2 whole seconds to start
It starts on the first second just it dies after a few secs.

it only happens to me like that when its real cold...it like revs to like 2500 rpm and then it dies....but if you hold the gas it makes it work....idk...if you have no emissions ....its time to get a weber..lol unless a20a1 can help you.

Try a little high octane fuel every now and then. Just enough to keep some in the tank , it will upgrade the rest of the fuel. Check your distributor cap and rotor button, Humidity reeks havoc on sloppy secondary connections.
I found the problem. The vent valve that prevents the fuel to evaporate when the engine is off wasn't holding vacuum, so fuel would evaporate out of the fuel bowl. So i took a spare carb i have, and the valve holds vacuum, so swapped them out and everything is fine now.

You need to look under the airbox(i unscrewed mine to lift it a bit). Right under it on the belt side of the engine you will see a big black hose with a clamp and a vacuum line connection to the carburetor, that valve closes when the engine is off so fuel doesn't evaporate. Go to the junkyard and bring a hand held vacuum pump, and find one that holds vacuum. But first, test yours with a vacuum pump, it should hold vacuum if it works, if it doesn't then you need to replace it. Also if you do end up replacing it, replace the gasket on there as well. The gasket is a pain to get on but it gets on there. One thing tho is you cannot rebuild these little valves.

What engine type do you have, i dont think mine have that valve, but looks like there's missing a diaghram on the belt side og the main throttle shaft, so maybe there should be one!! but if your engine type's the same i gota go the manual after to see if i've missing something... because the problem you have, i have tryed to get by by turning the key to drive position and off three times and i have to pump the gas 3 times i it's like it starts as it gonna ..

ok mine is a a20a2.. maybe theres the difference... and then theres the kx,ky and other models... thats a jungle.. but, i know we have the same bowl breather tube..

ha ha.. yep dont understand it either...
just said, theres plenty of models and variations..
No you don't have that part for the fuel vapor... so there is just a flat metal plate with 2 screws that close the hole on the side of the carb where the vent should be.
