    Lets see your custom gauges!

Like the title says, show out you custom gauges! Be it overlays, completely custom, modified or cluster swap(!!!) lets see em all!

Currently mine is in the process of getting re-done, what we are thinking is small 1mm holes drilled at each 20kmh interval and having a blue LED as a backlight there. New text, thinking the 2004 corvette text, it looks hot link

Gonna try to get the signal lights to be more blue than green, or a bluish green, I just hate the look of the slime green color.

Also thinking of painting the whole back piece like a jet black, a little bit of clear put on it to give it some definition. My roommate is going to do some overlay type designs to use aswell.

Ideally (not sure if this is possible) I'd like to have all the text bright white and have a black light at the top activate to light up the white with a blue backlighting.

Dont really know what else to say, post yours maybe get some ideas too

Heres a WIP, first trial of the overlays. Using pauldesign as a template

Its a black and white temp (because I have to go buy some ink for the color first) to do some lining up, almost there.

They look decent, I suggest you buy some of the vinyl sticker 8.5x11 sheets for you printer along with that ink. Printing on regular or glossy paper isn't going to cut it for in the car, the first set i did for the hatch from pauls site slowly curled and wrinkled because of the humidity in the car forming and disipating.

Re: Lets see your custom gauges!

Oh, and the needles are going to be painted with some black light reactive paint, there will be a black light where the front lights are, and for "backlighting" on the tach 1,2,3 etc will have a small hole drilled with an LED behind each one. Same with the speedo at 20/40/60 etc. And each point on the fuel/temp.

The signal lights will be blue, the face will be dark black.

    Any thoughts?

EDIT: Yeah, im on my way out now to buy supplies, picking up some sticker paper aswell for sure. No worries, will have "completed" pics today hopefully. The colors are awesome on it, you missing half of it now

Im printing on the good paper as I type, ill take a picture of it and post it up (since Id rather not have the real template online right now... maybe when I sell the car or blow it up) it looks amazing to me.

What do you think of the flames?

The SE-i is the standard PCP gauges(not reverse glow).

Re: Lets see your custom gauges!

The installation is fairly easy, just pull the cluster out, take the cover off, unscrew the gauges, slip the new gauges around the needles and on and put the screws back in. The toughest one is the temp/gas. After that you just need to find a wire to tap into for the power. I used the power for the upper backlight. Since mine have been installed i have had no problems with them.

Re: Lets see your custom gauges!

Holy shit you guys this looks awesome, its 95% done, just waiting for the caliper enamal I used on the needles to dry.

    What I did:
The original "blueish" top cover that would have the lights beaming down ONTO the guages, I cut up, and used that color as my signal lights, looks better.
Painted the needles a neon green (was gonna keep the white, but I wanted something different)
Painted the face a glossy black
Painted the backs of the guages flat black so no light would come through. Put LED's behind the cluster to light up the odometer and I cut small slits in the temp/fuel guage for the LEDS to show through (doesnt make too much difference with the black light, thats why I didnt do anything else to the tach)
And ofcourse a 10" neon black light to light everything up.

For those of you who have taken the cluster apart and know what it looks like, there are those 2 wires screwed onto the back (under the tach I think, or the temp/fuel) for +/-. Well for some reason you cant get a solid 12V off of it when its like that, so I unscrewed the - for that and screwed it into the nearest "Earth" screw hole. Works perfect, I'm gonna get everything back together, and take a picture. I'll get dark ones tonight. Damn, I like

EDIT: And for somethign different, I changed the BRAKE light to yellow (the cover anyways)

Re: Lets see your custom gauges!

As mentioned earlier in the post, here's the low res concept of what Fyre's guages were going to look like. I didnt think the colors on the real thing were nealy as good due to printer limitations, but they react better to the blacklight the way they are. The plan back then was to have LED needles too, hence the strange blue glow from them. also included is a sample of my motorcycle's new guages, it's all in japanese.
