Well today i went to my local speed shop and got a oil pressure gauge, got home and installed it according to the manual, started the car up and i was like wtf 70psi idle and 80psi at 3000rpm?
Does this sound right?Is this normal pressure?
Got no oil leaks and and the wiring is insulated good but the pressure sound's a little to high,what would cause to get this high pressure?
It sounds a little high.
What weight oil do you run and what tempurature did you see this?
I had 10w40 in my car till today and on a cold morning ,like 25 F, I got almost 75 psi on start up. My car has 263K. My oil pumps new last year.

I usually get around 75... I don't remember the rpm. I also shimmed my oil bleed.
My oil is 20w50 but I'm a rev happy monkey.I want to bring it back down to 15w30 since I don't have the time of day to open the car up.
my oil is 10w 40 but it turns out the sender faultybut I took it back and got a new one

The cold numbers are pretty low. Might want to try changing your oil pump when you can maybe at the next timing belt. I wouldnt worry about it to much but it is low.

The ones off the shop manual gives for a oil relief valve
Idle: 14 psi (minimum)
3000rpm: 54-65 psi
These are the numbers at 80 deg C

And what's wrong with fram's oil filter?
What shimming does is compress the oil regulator spring more so it takes higher oil pressure to open the relief valve and therefore giving you a higher pressure. It's the same principle as cranking on the pressure knob on your air compressor. The more you compress the spring under the knob the higher the proessure coming out of the hose is.
yea i understand what it does but what i was asking is how many more psi (above stock) is the low setting , the medium setting and the high setting, and also when would you need to bump up the pressure. would it be for high reving, or boost aplications or do you actually not need it and its just a mod for saying hey , look what i did?

Ok so that must be operating temp there refering too. I didnt understand it correctly.

I use API SF grade oil with 20W50 weight - and get 45 psi at startup at 1500 rpm,
once at normal temperature the oil pressure is 30 psi idle and 58 psi at 3000 rpm, the oil pump is the factory unit running at the service limit. Engine has 230,000 kms
all this measured with a mechanical gauge screwed into the oil pressure switch hole.

High pressure is sually the result of longer squirt or higher flow. In this case its the higher fluid flow of the oil. High revving and boosted applicaitons do need extra oil to cool/lubricate parts that are under heavier load than stock. So yes, your assumptions are right.
Go to Autozone, and get the BOSCH filter for our cars. Its like 5 bux and some change, better than the Fram pos i used before.
hmm mine is running 45 psi at idle and around 65 psi at 2000 rpm, I found that the nappa gold filters are good, also i'm running syntec blend 20w50 it flows a lot faster when cold then regular 20w50.
the best filters I ever used were Union (Japan) and Donaldson (USA), the bosch ones are upto spec with the OE,
Nowadays I used a local made in pakistan filter called QAIM, Ive seen their production facility and the paper, seals and valve used in it are top notch, cost half as much as the OE part tho.
i have no idea what my oil pressure is, but i generally run 20w50 to be easy on my bearings. I hear wix filters are very high quality for the money. I might try the relief spring mod also
