Time to get new tires and Rims

Well the winter coming up and the existing pepboy tires bald as hell, i decided to get new tires and rims for my car..... Finally. the problem is, i dont want to go anything past 15" on this car because of the crappy roads i have to drive on. and also the tires for that size and to normalize the overall diameter of the stock tire, 215/50/15 seemed to be right (60.7mph, 73.7in) compared to 205/50/15 (59.3mph, 72.5 in) and the stock being 72.9inch.
the two websites i been looking into are wheelmax and tirerack.
from wheel max i like the rim
    Nex-O GS-5 (Gun metal)

and tire Toyo Proxies 4 (the package totals $672 with freeshipping, free mounting and free balancing. )
    from Tire rack,
    Sport edition D3 rims

and tires Bridgestone Potenza G009 (package totallying $628 ($718 with shipping), with free balancing, mounting, $20 Mcguard wheel locks) snow traction of 7.7
I am leaning towards the Tirerack package, cause i like the tires and the rims are consevative. keep in mind that the 3g i have is not one of the great looking ones so its just gonna be a lil step up from the original

Wider is not better in the snow; you may want to try for some 195/55R15's to cut into the white stuff better. A couple of other sites to consider are www.discounttiredirect.com and www.vulcantire.com as they seem to have some good deals.

yeah i know wider is not for winer, but its better for some silly stuff in dry and also in wet. thanks for the links. im looking at them now. I got the refund check form school for about 1600 so i think i might as well spend it on some god standard rims and tires. Thanks man.

The following are the Three Rim Styles that i have finalized after looking at multiple websites. The following is from Tirerack and they are all 15inch rims.

tell me which ones you guys like.

i really like the very first rim pic you posted, its a nice looking rim and id say go with the toyo proxes, a buddy has them and they are a very well made tire and are excellent for the price

the only problem is, i dont know how they are in snow.

edit: okay i read up on it, seems like the Toyo Proxies are good in snow also. but has a treadwear of 300 while the Bridgestone Potenza G009 is 460 (8.5 on tire rack).

I really like that second wheel you posted. The first one looks too "MTV fast and furious 'bling bling' hot-import-nights super street omg I have blue turn signals and a wing on my corolla"-ish. The second wheels you posted were clean, almost OEM looking, and tasteful.

I'm running 15" proxes t1's, they're great... I sure as hell don't run them in the winter though - roads are too vicious. why don't you just find a set of used rims smuf? then you could afford to clean up the car a bit.

if you are buying wheels online.. i would suggest wheelmax. I got my 17's+ tires for the beretta off their site and I was very impressed with how helpful the customer service was, and the shipping time (not to mention free shipping!) was nice.

Re: Time to get new tires and Rims

okay, i cant get the gunmetal rim from wheelmax cause they are sold out and would take weeks to get it back. So im basicaly gonna go with Borbete Type E with Bridgestones. this is the rim

The reason i dont want to get used rims is because im scared that they might be bent. like the steelies i have on now. and i need the tires asap since the winter is coming and i already got snow yesterday, its gonna snow today and tomorrow.

the Proxies are 100 times btter in the wet than the G009s. If you live where it rains, get the Proxies. They wear much better than the G009s too. I have owned both tires.

Re: Time to get new tires and Rims

i ordered my Rims and my bridgestones. The Toyo was not gonna work, cause it was from wheelmax and the bridegestones and rims were balanced and mounted from tirerack. so i cant do proxies. i need them by friday since sat ill be out.

Re: Time to get new tires and Rims

The rims and tires came yesterday. Since the Rims are 35mm offset, the 205s are rubbing in the rear. I know how to roll the fenders, but i just dont have a baseball bat. lol

NOTE: They did not give me a sheet for how much to torque the rims. I have torqued them to 130 ft-lbs. Is it right? I know u have to retorque it in like 100 miles or something. Anyone have a clue?

EDIT: i suck. I just looked at the Tire Rack Installation page. and the 9/16" is rated at 135-145 ft-lbs and need to be retorqued at 50-100 miles.

Re: Time to get new tires and Rims

oh i defenitely will. I retorqued them to 140 ft-lbs on my drive down. The tires feel very good. the car drives a lot better and traction is awsome. Compared to my bald stock $22 pepboy tires, these are just amazing. and with a 460 treadwear, i think it should last me a lot.

I finally rolled my fenders and no more rubbing. Damn thing rubbed every time i hit a small dip in the road.
