    universal exhaust

i was on ebay looking for a universal exhaust for my accord and i typed in "universal exhaust" well it gave me a list of over 400 "universal mufflers" that go as low as $11.99. heres a good example, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...QQcmdZViewItem. after s&h total comes out to less than 40 bucks. Now based on the material the muffler is made of, would you guys recomend buying it? the factory muffler on my lxi is rusting bad so im looking for a good looking cheap replacement. on the description it also says youll gain 12hp which no way in hell would you gain that much hp and thats what makes me doubt the quality of the muffler. with that in mind, has anyone ever bought one of these or a similiar muffler from ebay? and would you guys recomend buying one for this cheap? thanks to all responses.

i dunno, that looks decent enough if your gonna go for a cheapo. but do know that this muffler will sound louder than stock and will sound cheap if you weld it onto your stock size piping. it should have a buzzy type sound to it until you put bigger pipe infront of it.

    Re: universal exhaust

if i where you i would just get a whole custom cat back exhaust at your local muffler shop maybe 2" if you trying to keep it stock or if you really want performace 2.25"

btw dont buy any cheap mufflers they will sound like crap...

yea buying a muffler requires some thought because you don't want one that will buzz.

Yeah, I agree... I followed a 4G Civic Sedan this morning that was lowered on stock 13" wheels, had Z3 fenders, blown shocks, and the loudest ass muffler I've heard in a while. Looked just like that one in the link. Don't buy it unless you are adding a resonator or something...

    Re: universal exhaust

Well that link that i posted was just an example, im not getting that exact muffler just an n1 style muffler is what im looking for and one that will give me a nice deep sporty tone. Actually all the mufflers that i looked up on ebay say they come with a silencer which is a big plus since i too get annoyed by the lawnmover sound that is typical of civics with fart cans. Money is not really an issue but im not willing to spend more that $80 on a muffler (i can get it install for $20 so my budget is $100) so what mufflers would you guys recomend? or which one will give you the best sound?

    Titanium, except it's stainless steel..

The burn tip is just sticking a torche (like blowtorche or oxy/aceteline torch) to the tip and letting it burn down.. strengthens it if done right.

That muffler is crap anyways. 2.5 inlet, 4" tip.. Boo :P

I have a Tenzo Type II Titanium Tip muffler with 2 1/2" pipe and it sounds really nice. It's really bassey and not too loud inside. It pisses people off outside, but isn't that the point?

    Re: universal exhaust

i have a ractive on mine from header back. it's real loud it gets annoying but all i need is a silencer because i lost the org one it came with. but overall it's a good muffler and when ur in 5th at about 4-5k is when it realy shines. sounds like a beast.

ps i have no cat or resonator so it's real loud..

    Re: universal exhaust

There was a guy that posted pics of his exhaust setup a little while ago and it looked almost identical to an RS*R exhuast. Although it wasn't, I've forgotten what it was but, he really liked it loud, deep, and not resonator-ish. I'll try to find the link unless someone gets to it first

i had an n1 style muffler on my 86 civic that i got of eba, i had it welded to the stock exhaust and it didnt have that buzz sound at all just a low loud sound i mean it was really loud i drove from the oregon coast to apple valley california and got pulled over 3 times for noise pollution but with the silencer in it was fine only problem with it was it started to get surface rust on it
